Online Master’s Degree Programs at Utica College

Utica College offers eight online master’s degree programs for students, including a nursing program with three concentration options. In the family nurse practitioner concentration, students need to do an immersive experience on-campus from Friday to Sunday and complete 720 hours of practicum work. That work will count towards the practicum hours needed in the college’s doctoral program. The nurse leadership concentration does not include on-campus work but features 180 hours of practicum work. Students who choose the nurse education track need to complete the same number of practicum hours.
A Master’s in Health Care Administration (MHA) is also available online from Utica College. It allows students to focus on long-term care, acute care, or service organizations depending on where they want to work. All students will take 21 credits of classes to complete the continuum of care core, which includes Health Care Systems: A Continuum of Care, Human Resources Management, Health Care Accounting Processes, and Leadership in Marketing and Strategic Planning. They also need to take 12 credits from a concentration and complete a capstone project.
Students with an interest in cybersecurity can choose between a Master of Science (MS) in Cybersecurity or a Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Cyber Policy and Risk Analysis. The MPS program looks at organizational policies and risk assessments. It features a core that includes Legal Foundations of Information Security and Privacy, Complex Organizations, and Cyberspace and Cybersecurity. The college’s cybersecurity program includes concentrations in electronic crime, cyber operations, intelligence, cyber forensics, and malware analysis. Majors need to take 30 credits of courses that include a cybersecurity core and classes in one of the five concentration areas.
The college’s online Master of Business Administration (MBA) includes a general track and a concentration in fraud management. In the general program, students take classes to learn about business, including Principles and Practices of Leadership, Financial Fluency, The Global Consumer, Markets and Logistics, and Data-Driven Decision Making. The fraud management track teaches students how to analyze risks and look for signs of fraud. Graduates fulfill the requirements needed to work as certified fraud examiners. Utica College may let students pick from other MBA concentrations too, including health care management and insurance and risk management.
Also available is a master’s program in financial crime and compliance management. It started in 1999 as a way to meet the growing need for workers experienced in financial crime investigation. Students take nine credits of classes from core groups in technology, management, and financial crimes and an analytical skills class. They earn six credits from a culminating experience such as an internship, but they can do a thesis instead of doing fieldwork. The financial crime program includes Fraud Management and Technology, Financial Investigations, Legal Concepts of Criminal Fraud and Networks, and Internet Security. Utica College also offers an online master’s degree program in data science.
About Utica College
Utica College is a private university named after the city of Utica, New York. Syracuse University started the college as an extension school in the 1930s. It then became a four-year school in 1946 called Utica College of Syracuse University. The college moved to a new location in the 1960s that had more space for students and more room for it to expand. Syracuse ended its endorsement of the college in 1995, which is when it became Utica College or UC. The college now offers more than 60-degree programs for undergrads and graduate students and saw its enrollment grow to more than 4,000 students in recent years. UC is home to the Edith Langley Barrett Art Gallery that features up to four exhibitions each year that include students’ work. The gallery also offers opportunities for students to gain valuable work experience as they are responsible for its daily operations.
Utica College Accreditation Details
With regional accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), Utica can give financial aid packages to students that include federal and state aid. They can get an aid package after they submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The college also has accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC). Both versions of the online MBA program have accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) too.
Utica College Application Requirements
The application requirements that students need to meet will depend on their programs. Nursing students need to present a valid license that shows they are authorized to work in a specific state. They also need a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and a transcript that shows they took both a health assessment class and a statistics course. Utica requires that nursing students pass a criminal background check and submit a writing sample or personal essay, two letters of recommendation, and proof that they have a bachelor’s degree. They also need to show that they did 2,000 hours of fieldwork too. In the MBA program, students need a GPA of 2.7 or higher and a minimum of two years of work experience. All programs require a completed application and official college or university transcripts.
Tuition and Financial Aid
At Utica College, graduate students pay a base rate in a program and then pay a distance education fee. The college charges rates that range from $700 to $857 per credit hour. With the distance education fee added, they’ll pay up to $897 per credit hour. Students enrolled in a full-time program either need to have health insurance or get coverage from the college. Health insurance will add $1,789 to their annual costs. Utica has a deadline around the middle of September every year. Students who do not show proof of their health insurance by this deadline will need to purchase coverage.
Once an online graduate student submits the FAFSA to Utica College, the college will create a financial aid package. Students enrolled quarter-time or full-time can get unsubsidized federal loans. They will need to use the college’s website to sign a promissory note and go through loan counseling. Utica allows students to use any alternative loans they get from other lenders and will accept external scholarships too. Students can talk with financial aid representatives from Utica College before they apply to an online master’s degree program if they have any questions.
