About Post University

Post University is a private and for-profit university headquartered in Waterbury, Connecticut. Established in 1890, it opened as the Mattoon Shorthand School and offered classes in business and the secretarial arts. As the demand for business programs grew near the end of the century, it changed its curriculum and became the Bliss and Harrington’s Business College and School of Shorthand. Later known as the Waterbury Business College, it adopted the Post College name in the 1970s. After becoming affiliated with Teikyo University, the college served as Teikyo Post University. Known as Post University or Post since 2004, it now owns three regional study centers in Connecticut that offer courses for students. Most of its more than 7,000 enrolled students take online classes from Post. Post University now offers six associate’s degree programs and nearly 20 bachelor’s programs in addition to graduate degrees and certificates.

Post University Accreditation Details

The Office of Higher Education in Connecticut licensed Post to offer degree programs in the state and authorized the university to offer online programs. Both the online and regional study centers have regional accreditation too from the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). This is why traditional and online students can get financial aid when they file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Post also has accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) and for all its nursing degree programs.

Post University Application Requirements

Both the main campus of Post and the online campus have the same application requirements for incoming graduate students. They need to submit transcripts from their previous colleges and a letter o recommendation along with the university’s online application. Post asks students to have a faculty member or a school official write that letter. An admissions interview is also required, which helps the university find out more about each student. The interview helps each department find the best students for their programs and weed out those who do not meet the minimum requirements.

Students with a grade point average of 3.0 and higher do not need to do anything else when they apply. Those with a GPA below 3.0 need to provide another letter of recommendation and a personal statement. This second letter can come from a current or former faculty member or a professional reference such as a supervisor who worked with the student. When writing a personal statement, the student needs to explain why their GPA is lower and how it will not affect them in graduate school. Post also requires that these students interview with the dean.

Tuition and Financial Aid

At Post University, graduate students pay $570 per credit hour in many programs, including the certificate tracks. Both the university’s accounting and project management programs charge $625 per credit hour. In the MBA program, grad students pay $730 per credit hour. Online students pay a $50 technology term each semester on top of their tuition. The university also adds $70 to its costs each term to cover the cost of taking electronic classes.

Graduate students can still get financial aid to cover their costs while at school and their living expenses at home. If they need financial aid, they should complete the FAFSA with the university’s school code listed. On-campus students can get assistantships through the university, but online students may find offline and online jobs that qualify for work-study too. The loans that are available for them include both PLUS and unsubsidized loans from the federal government and alternative loans from private banks and lenders. Students may get other funding from the university too and use any other funding that they find outside of the university. Post University will also accept any scholarships that students get after enrolling in one of the online master’s degree programs.
