Graduate students who want to study online at Georgia Southern University can choose from master’s degree programs in education, health care, and business. Three programs are available from the Parker School of Business, including a Master of Business Administration (MBA). Also called the university’s WebMBA, it helps students learn about business administration from the same professors who teach on-campus. The program features a mandatory two-day orientation in Atlanta and classes that include Managerial Finance, Human Behavior in Organizations, Management Information Systems, and Production and Operations Management. The Parker College of Business offers an online Master of Science (MS) in Applied Analytics, a Master of Accounting, and certificates in enterprise resource planning and applied economics.
Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) and Master of Education (MEd) programs are available online from the College of Education. MAT students can choose from concentrations in elementary education, special education or, health and physical education, which has a summer start date. Each concentration includes several steps that require students to demonstrate competency in one area before moving to the next step. Students who are not teachers will need to do a basic internship. Those who have a teaching license and work full-time as teachers will do a professional internship.
Georgia Southern University offers degree programs through the Waters College of Health Professions online for graduate students too. About Georgia Southern University
The public university known as Georgia Southern, GS, GSU, and Georgia Southern University has a campus in Statesboro that serves as the flagship institution in the GS System. Other campuses are in Hinesville and Savannah, which the university calls the Liberty Campus and the Armstrong Campus. The history of the university dates back to 1906 when the state established the First District Agricultural & Mechanical School. As the need for A&M training declined, the school shifted its focus to education programs and became the Georgia Normal School and later a state teaching college. The former teaching college became GS in 1990 and now has an enrollment of more than 26,000 students. Forbes and The Daily Beast rank GS as one of the best American colleges and one of the safest campuses.
Georgia Southern University Accreditation Details
Student loans come from the federal government and go to students who need help paying for school. Graduate students at GSU can only get those loans if they submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). They can use this online form because the university has regional accreditation, which it received from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Other accreditation held by GSU comes from organizations such as the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), and National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
Georgia Southern University Application Requirements
The admissions requirements that online students need to meet will depend heavily on the programs they choose. MBA students have until August first to apply and begin in the fall or December first if they want to start in the fall. GSU does not let MBA students start in the summer. They need transcripts that show they took prerequisite business classes in accounting, finance, management, and other subjects. GSU charges a $50 fee to process the student’s application and asks for an official GMAT score and resume. The resume should include sections on the student’s awards, academic grade point average, and professional experience. GSU requires a minimum of two years of experience.
GSU students applying to a College of Education program need to meet the February 15 deadline, which allows them to take classes in the summer. These programs require a bachelor’s degree and a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Students need to take the GACE Program Admission Assessment or submit an ACT/SAT/GRE score and also provide an official score from the Georgia Educator Ethics. The university requires a letter of intent and several signed and dated documents that students will find online.
A BSN is required of any student applying to the university’s MSN program. They also need a valid Georgia nursing license and a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The university asks for copies of several signed forms, including the Georgia Southern Health Services form and a copy of the student’s CPR certification. Many of the programs in the health sciences have similar requirements and also ask for a completed application and three letters of recommendation.
Tuition and Financial Aid
GSU graduate students pay the same rate in the university’s online programs and do not face tuition hikes if they live out of the state. The MBA program is the most expensive and charges $739 per credit hour. Students in the MSN and other nursing programs pay $385 per credit hour. Most of the education programs charge $358 per credit hour. GSU offers a discount for military students who want to take online classes too. As long as they can prove their status and fill out the required documents, they’ll pay just $250 per credit hour.
Online graduate students should complete the FAFSA before they start at GSU and update the form each year that they’re in an online program. This is what lets them get the unsubsidized loans that are only available for graduate students. They can sign the lending agreement online and complete their loan counseling without ever visiting GSU. The government allows them to make loan payments while enrolled in their programs too. Outside of the FAFSA, students can apply for alternative loans and look at scholarship programs. Students can use government, institutional and alternative financial aid to pay for the online master’s degree programs at Georgia Southern University.
