Texas A&M offers a wide range of master’s degrees from its prestigious online campus. Texas A&M was established in 1866, and it is the oldest public university in Texas. It was created after the Morrill Act was passed by the U.S. Congress in 1862, enabling states to allocate money for agricultural and engineering schools. The first class of students began attending A&M in 1876, and the Morrill Act stipulated that all students were required to participate in military training. This change was made prior to the Civil Rights Act of 1966. Since then, A&M has expanded to become one of the three tier-one universities in Texas. Texas A&M is institutionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The SACSCC is a regional agency that is federally approved to accredit universities throughout the southern United States. Several departments and programs at A&M are accredited by specialized agencies. The Department of Agriculture and Life Science is accredited by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers. Texas A&M University – College Station Application Requirements
Applications for fall enrollment at Texas A&M are due by March 1, and the deadline for spring applications is November 1. Admissions at A&M are competitive, and most applications are approved or declined within 30 days of submission. Because admissions are competitive, applications are reviewed numerous times by members of the faculty and administration.
The application requirements at A&M differ by enrollment type. Freshmen applications require a high school transcript or proof of a GED while transfer applications require a college transcript from an accredited university. Undergraduate applicants should include SAT or ACT scores with their applications. Most undergraduates admitted to A&M have SAT scores in the range of 1150 to 1320 or composite ACT scores from 24 to 30.
Transcripts should contain information about cumulative grade point average and class ranking. Graduate school applications should include GRE test scores and transcripts showing proof of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university. GRE test scores are not necessary for every application, but graduate students without previous experience in their chosen discipline may need to take remedial classes before enrolling in a master’s program.
Application requirements for online programs are the same as requirements for residential programs. Before enrolling in a Web-based program, students should consult an enrollment advisor of the department to which he or she wishes to enroll. Residential students at A&M can take online courses without changing their degree plans to find out if distance education works for them.
Tuition and Financial Aid
The in-state tuition rate for Texas A&M is about $11,036 per year. For students outside of Texas, the tuition cost is about $31,214. To become eligible for the in-state tuition rate, students must reside in Texas for one year before enrollment. The cost per credit hour at A&M is the same whether students take undergraduate or graduate courses online or in person. Most students can graduate from A&M with a debt of $30,000 or less. The majority of students at A&M can qualify for financial aid in the form of grants, scholarships, and loans. There are also many work-study programs available for graduate and undergraduate students.
While scholarships, grants, and private loans are available to all students through the financial aid office at A&M, federally subsidized and unsubsidized loans are available through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid program. FAFSA provides the easiest opportunity for students to pay for their college courses while keeping student debt to a minimum. Federal student aid is available on an as-needed basis. To be eligible for federal aid, students must be able to demonstrate financial need. Public student loans do not need to be repaid until the student falls below half-time enrollment status.
From grants and subsidized loans to academic scholarships, student aid can pay for the entire cost of a college education.
