About Fresno Pacific University
Fresno Pacific University originated in 1941 when the Pacific District Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches started a location search for a Western school like Tabor College. Three years later, a Fresno YWCA designed by Julia Morgan on Tuolumne Street was chosen. The new Pacific Bible Institute provided Christian undergrad studies here until the 1950s. In 1955, its Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary was erected for the first Master of Divinity degree. Its present 42-acre Central California campus opened in 1958 with Michael Sattler Hall. Accredited in 1961, it was renamed Pacific College in 1964 during President Arthur Weibe’s tenure. By 1967, the Graduate School was launched with a Master of Arts in Education. Three decades later, President Allen Carden adopted the Fresno Pacific University name to signify broad post-bachelor’s options. In 2012, an FPU Merced campus was added to Bakersfield, North Fresno, Visalia, and Online Learning divisions. On February 25, 2015, Fresno Pacific University was visited by the Education Effectiveness Review Team from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Senior College and University Commission to extend the Level III accreditation satisfactorily through 2025 under its Provost, Dr. Gayle Copeland. Headquartered 182 miles north via Interstate 5 near San Francisco, this nifty nine-territory Pacific Coast accreditor is recognized by the U.S. Education Department to ensure standards compliance for Fresno’s 100+ study areas. Fresno Pacific University Application Requirements
Starting at Fresno Pacific University is classified “selective” by the U.S. News & World Report though 95 percent of the 2,439 Fall 2017 applicants were welcomed. The Graduate Admission Office only considers online entrants with 120+ bachelor’s semester credits from senior regionally accredited colleges. The Athletic Training MA mandates the completion of a CAATE-accredited baccalaureate and Board Certification. Educational Technology MAEd cohorts have typically finished teacher prep for California’s K-12 Preliminary Credential. Attestation of Christian faith is expected for Fresno’s Ministry, Leadership & Culture MA online. Most master’s set a GPA minimum of 2.75 for junior and senior year. The Teacher Librarian MA requires letters of explanation for GPAs below 3.0. Lower grades are accepted for the Leadership Studies MA for good test scores. Competitive GRE marks are 151 Verbal, 152 Quantitative, and 3.5 Analytical Writing or higher. The School of Business weighs GMAT scores above 400. Foreign students prove English fluency with Writing, Reading, and Listening TOEFL pBT marks over 50. Completing Level 5 in the IELP Program waives this requirement though.
Fresno Pacific University’s Graduate School simplifies admission by keeping it rolling on a first-come basis. Only non-U.S. residents have strict deadlines of July 15th and November 1st yearly. Final online registration dates are currently August 21st, November 5th, January 31st, and March 25th. Accordingly, file the FPU Application online with a $90 fee by credit card or money order. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2018-19, Fresno Pacific University has charged full-time Graduate School tuition of $5,850 per 16-week term or $11,700 annually. Campus post-grads pay the $100 services fee, $50 GR technology fee, and $250 ministry fee. Living at the San Joaquin Valley campus’ housing like Willow Gardens Apartments adds $1,050 to $3,152 after the $200 housing deposit. Full-access dining plans for Steinert Campus Center are $2,143. Traditional attendance usually costs $37,559 to $43,115. However, the Center for Online Learning reduces expenses by only billing $650 per credit. Exceptions include the Kinesiology MA at $560 per credit. Online Leadership Studies MA cohorts spend $675 per credit. The Ministry, Leadership & Culture MA is the cheapest at $440 per credit.
According to the NCES College Navigator, the Financial Aid Office at Sunbird Central gets 100 percent of incoming FPU students average assistance of $25,394 for $5.35 million total. Ministry, Leadership & Cultural MA cohorts meeting 3.0 GPAs qualify for the $1,000 Pastoral Scholarship. FAFSA applications coded 001253 determine Federal TEACH Grant and Direct Loan eligibility. Since 1955, the California State Aid Commission has provided resources like the Cal Grant, Dream Act, and Middle Class Scholarship.
