Online Master’s Degrees Offered at Florida Institute of Technology

Nowadays, many people turn to online education when they want to get an advanced degree. The Florida Institute of Technology, or Florida Tech, is set up to meet these students where they’re at.
The school offers a number of online master’s degrees. These include a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Science in Cybersecurity. Other MBA programs include masters degrees in marketing, management, project management, organizational leadership, supply chain management and international business to name but a few.
These programs make it possible for busy professionals to continue working while they earn their degrees. Once they do receive their degrees, they’re prepared for careers in the STEM industry, as well as in business.
About Florida Institute of Technology
The Florida Institute of Technology, or Florida Tech for short, has an interesting history. Originally founded in 1958 Brevard Engineering College as a training center for the space industry in Florida, it is now not only a STEM college, but a liberal arts college as well. As the story goes, Florida Tech was the brainchild of physicist Dr. Jerome P. Keuper, who, while having drinks in a pub one night with a friend, said that he’d like to found a technological and scientific university. Another patron overheard the conversation and gave him 37 cents as seed money for the college.
Since that time, Florida Tech has gone on to become a national university that provides educational opportunities for students in and out of the STEM fields. It has four academic colleges within the university’s system. These colleges include a college of aeronautics, a college of engineering and science, a college of psychology and liberal arts, and a college of business. Nearly half of the people who apply to FIT enroll in the school’s College of Engineering.
US News and World Report ranks it 202nd on its National Universities list and 153rd on its Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs list. Just under 4,000 students attend the Florida Institute of Technology. Because it’s located an hour away from the Kennedy Space Center, students at the school have plenty of opportunities to connect with industry professionals. Notable alumni include David King, who is the former director of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center and Ann Dunwoody, the US Army’s first female four-star general. Five of its graduates have had experiences in space.
Given the technical nature of the university, it would be tempting to think that its grounds and atmosphere feel dry and technical, but that is not the case. Palm trees dot its campus, and students can spend time near the water features that cool the school’s grounds. Its location in Melbourne, Florida means that students blow off steam in their off-hours by heading to the beach. It’s not unusual to see students kayaking, surfing, boating or fishing during their free time. Orlando and all of its offerings is just an hour or so away as well. Students who want to stay closer to home hang out at the Panther Aquatic Center or catch an exhibit at the Foosaner Art Museum.
In keeping with its dedication to innovation, the school added the Harris Student Design Center to its campus in 2015. This 11,500-square-foot facility is a place for students to explore their ideas about design and to work on projects to that end. The school has other research facilities as well. Students can delve more deeply into the atmospheric sciences by seeding time in the Wind and Hurricane Impact Research Laboratory.
Florida Institute of Technology Accreditation
Florida Institute of Technology received its regional accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. It has additional accreditations or membership privileges from the Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI), Commission on Accreditation of the American Psychological Association, ABET, AACSB Business Education Alliance and Association for Behavior Analysis International to name but a few. The accreditation process for colleges and universities is voluntary.
Florida Institute of Technology Application Requirements
Prospective graduate students must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university to apply to FIT. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Students who otherwise have an acceptable undergraduate record may have the opportunity to take subject-specific courses during graduate school to make up for any course-related shortfalls.
To apply, students must fill out the application and pay an application fee of $50. Florida Tech wavies the application fee of any FIT graduate who wishes to earn their advanced degrees at the university. Additionally, students are required to submit their academic transcripts, recommendations, a resume or CV, their GRE or GMAT scores, their statement of objectives and proof of English proficiency.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Almost all FIT students get some sort of financial aid. This includes incoming freshmen who were members of a First Robotics or Vex Robotics team while they were in high school. Incoming graduate students are also eligible for financial aid.
Graduate students may receive an assistantship to help pay for their education (amongst other things). To be considered for this, a student must submit three letters of recommendation, as well as his or her statement of objectives, by January 15th. However, it’s wise for the student to double check with the department he or she wishes to apply to. Some departments may have different application deadlines for assistantships.
The cost of attending Florida Tech varies, depending on the program the student applies to. In light of that, prospective students should keep in mind that the information here is only a guideline. All tuition rates can be found on FIT’s website. Generally speaking, graduate students will pay between $600 and $1,288 per credit hour, depending on the program. Students can get on-campus housing. The rates vary from just over $2,000 a semester and go up to almost $5,000 a semester.
Students who wish to be considered for federal financial aid should fill out the FAFSA form. This qualifies them for loans, grants, and scholarships. Graduate-level fellowships and awards include the Civil Alumni Recruitment Endowment (CARE), Dr. Leonard D. Healy Graduate Scholarship, John M. Williams Fellowship in DMES, Link Foundation Ocean Engineering Fellowship, Alan Edwin Paltzik Fellowship, and the Deering–Irlandi Fellowship Fund.
