About University of North Georgia
The University of North Georgia began when Gainesville State College, which was founded in 1964, and the North Georgia College and State University, founded in 1873, merged. This established four campuses in northeast Georgia under one University. Campuses were located in Cumming, Dahlonega, Gainesville and Oconee with a fifth, Blue Ridge, opening in 2015.
Today, the school is one of only six that are federally designated as senior military colleges, carrying the distinction of the Military College of Georgia. The school is recognized for its Army ROTC program attracting students from around the world. In addition, the University of North Georgia has earned the Community Engagement Classification from the Carnegie Foundation. It is also a State Leadership Institution.
There are over 19,700 students enrolled at the University of North Georgia with 68 percent of them attending full-time. There are 746 students enrolled in the Corps of Cadets and 20 percent of those are women. Reveille is played each morning at 7 AM while Taps is played at midnight each weekday and at 2 AM on Friday and Saturday to signal the end of the day. The drill field, located in the heart of the Dahlonega campus, is an integral part of student life.

The University of North Georgia is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. This indicates that programs at the school offer students an education that is of the highest quality based on criteria determined by the Association. In addition, the school undergoes a peer-review process to confirm they continue to meet that criteria and any areas identified as needing improvement are addressed immediately. Accreditation also indicates that the school has the resources to meet its stated goals and objectives. It also qualifies students to apply for and receive federal student aid. University of North Georgia Application Requirements
Applicants to the Master of Arts in International Affairs must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Their undergraduate degree does not have to be in international relations. They must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Applicants with a GPA of 2.75 in undergraduate studies do not have to provide GRE or GMAT scores. They must provide two recommendations and a 600-word personal statement.
Applicants to the Master of Science in Criminal Justice must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university. They must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Applicants must have a GPA of 2.75 or higher in undergraduate studies. They must also have completed a basic statistics course with a “C” or better and a research methodology course with a “C” or better, both at the undergraduate level. They must submit three recommendations as well as a letter of intent. Applicants who do not have an undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or better may be admitted provisionally if they can provide official GRE scores of at least 143 verbal and 143 quantitative.
University of North Georgia Tuition & Financial Aid
Tuition for the Master of Arts in International Affairs and the Master of Science in Criminal Justice is $453 per credit hour regardless of residency.
All students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), regardless of income as some assistance may be merit-based rather than need-based. Although most graduate students are offered loans to offset the cost of tuition, they may seek scholarships and grants from outside organizations as well. Students who attend on-campus may be offered assistantships and fellowships.
