Full Sail University offers 11 online master’s degree programs that each take 12 months to complete. One program is a sports management track with a focus on the entertainment business. This Master of Science (MS) program gets students ready to help athletes at all levels with their careers. Students take one class each month, which allows them to focus on the subject in each specific course. Those courses include Entertainment Business Finance, Legal Issues in Sports, Negotiation and Deal Making, and Sports Management and Operations.
Through the university’s MS in Mobile Gaming, students learn how to design games that others play on their phones and mobile devices. One of the main classes they take is one called Mobile Gaming Business. It looks at how students can come up with ideas for new games and identify those who will play the games as well as how to price their games to succeed in the market. Storyboard and Game Design is another required class that helps students design the stories for their games and come up with designs for their characters and levels. Students in the mobile gaming program will also take Mobile Game Testing, Agile Software Engineering, and Mobile Gaming Thesis, which is a class that asks them to present the games they designed.
Students who want to write for a living can enroll in the university’s Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing. The Art of Visual Storytelling is just one of the classes that majors take. It helps students understand the basics of creating detailed stories based on the ideas they have. In Script Writing and Criticism, they learn how to write for the big or small screen and change that work based on the feedback they get. The Business of Creative Writing and Multimedia Adaptation are some of the other classes in the writing program.
Another option is an MS in Innovation and Entrepreneurship that the university designed for students who want to run a business or work for a business owner. In Business Model Development, students look at how business owners can remain competitive in today’s market and how they can meet the needs of a client base. Entrepreneurial Finance is another required class that goes over how entrepreneurs can pay their finances with help from investors and other options. The program also includes a class called Product Design and Development that looks at how to identify needs in the market and create products to meet those needs. Full Sail University also offers online master’s degrees in journalism, public relations, instructional design, marketing, and business.
About Full Sail University
Full Sail University is a private university that started as a small school in Dayton, Ohio. Jon Phelps opened a recording studio in the city that offered classes in audio engineering and recording arts. This school then moved to a new campus in Orlando, Florida that had more space to grow and more opportunities for students. It received the accreditation needed to offer associate degree programs and moved to a new campus in the late 1980s in Winter Park. Winter Park is now the main campus of the university, which also uses the names Full Sail and FSU. Full Sail would change its curriculum in recent years to include more majors for students, including graphic design and mobile gaming programs. It also offers education and business programs for undergrads and graduate students. Enrollment at Full Sail University now includes more than 18,000 students.
Full Sail University Accreditation Details
Full Sail has accreditation as a career school from the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC). The ACCSC awarded the university accreditation because its degree programs prepare students for jobs and careers in different fields. Full Sail has accreditation from the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CELPA) too. Both Florida and California awarded the university licenses to operate in those states. Students can take classes online if they live in other states too.
Full Sail University Application Requirements
FSU encourages students to contact an admissions representative before they apply. This lets them go over what they want to study, the programs that appeal to them, and how they can start classes. Incoming graduate students need both a grade point average of 2.0 or higher and a bachelor’s degree. The university also accepts students who have a graduate degree and this same GPA. It requires official transcripts from all the post-secondary institutions that the student attended and asks that each one include the cumulative GPA that the student had at the school. Full Sail also asks that students have a degree in a field connected to the one they will study at the graduate level.
In some cases, the university will accept students with a GPA of below 2.0. Those students need to provide a letter of intent that states they want to study a specific subject at the university. They also need to submit a current resume. Those documents must go to the director of the program that interests them. Students will interview with an admissions representative, apply online, and then submit their transcripts along with a government-issued photo ID.
Tuition and Financial Aid
The entertainment business program at Full Sail University charges $850 per credit hour. Students pay $35,280 to complete this program. The costs they pay can change from one program to another though. Game design majors pay $768 per credit hour. Other programs at the university charge $534 per credit hour. Incoming students can view the university’s cost and see how much they will pay each month before they enroll.
Every program offered online by Full Sail University has scholarship opportunities available for students. The momentum scholarship goes to students enrolled in a program who make progress towards finishing their degrees. It provides them with up to $20,000 a year and can work with any other financial aid that they get. FSU requires that students submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and that they have a version of this form on file before classes start. This allows online students to gain access to the unsubsidized loans that the federal government offers. Full Sail University allows students in all of its online master’s degree programs to use student loans and scholarships to cover their costs.
