Florida State University Application Requirements

Graduate admission competition is fierce, so students should apply nine to twelve months prior to their target enrollment term. This is relevant for graduate students who want to apply for funding, fellowships, assistantships, and tuition waivers. Graduate admission is a two-step process. First, the Office of Admissions determines general eligibility. Then, the college or academic department determines admissibility to the target degree program. Admission into specific programs may be based on research interests, personal statements, letters of recommendation and relevant interviews, auditions, or portfolios.

Readers should note that most graduate academic programs only admit for a specific term or have earlier deadlines than undergraduate programs. The three general deadlines are November 1, March 1, and July 1. The Office of Admissions maintains a simple online application that requires a residency form, official transcripts, and standardized graduate admission test scores. A graduate applicant must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college with a minimum 3.0 GPA in all classes. Official test results are required, such as the Miller Analogies Test, the Graduate Management Admission Test or the Graduate Record Examination revised General Test.
