Indiana University offers an online Master of Library and Information Science that creates leaders in applying technology to facilitate access to information. The program provides instruction in information literacy, metadata management and other modern challenges in a digital age. Students gain an understanding of key policy issues and technological trends as well as how these issues affect libraries and other organizations that deal with information. They learn how to assist users, develop and maintain collections, organize information resources, conduct research and make the most of information technology. Students in the Bachelor of Arts program may enter the accelerated degree program that allows them to earn their master’s degree at the same time they earn their bachelor’s degree.

The Master of Science in Technology with an emphasis on Facilities Management is designed for those currently working in the field or who have an interest in advancing in the field. The curriculum is based on Facility Management Association guidelines and covers a wide range of topics. The program focuses on project and control management, engineering systems management and energy management. Students learn to identify, analyze and solve problems related to facility management while also gaining an understanding of the professional and ethical responsibilities in facility management. This program is available both online and at the IUPUI campus.

The Indiana University Master of Social Work provides foundation coursework in diversity, human rights, and social justice. The program includes information on social policy and social work practice as well. Students are able to explore specialized fields of the industry such as military, e-social, telebehavioral health, mental health, and addictions social work. Courses required may include Social Policy Analysis and Practice, Generalist Theory and Practice, Assessment in Mental Health and Addictions as well as Clinical Theory and Practice. Students in the bachelor’s Social Work program may be able to accelerate their degree program, earning their master’s degree along with their undergraduate degree.

About Indiana University

In 1820, an act of legislature established a seminary, the first west of the Allegheny Mountains. The school opened with ten men but, by 1928, enrollment had grown to significantly. At that time, the name of the school was changed to Indiana College. In 1867, Indiana became one of the first institutes of higher learning to admit women. Ten years later, it became Indiana University.

From the beginning, Indiana University was innovative in its class offerings and research. It was the first to offer a course on comic books that was accredited, and research at the school created the formula for Crest toothpaste and treatment for testicular cancer that improved survival rates from 5 to 95 percent.

Today, there are more than 94,000 students enrolled at Indiana University and 27 percent of those are first-generation college students. US News & World Report ranks the university in the top 20 for undergraduate teaching. Reuters ranked the school in the top 30 on a list of the most innovative universities in the world.

Indiana University Accreditation Details

Indian University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission which demonstrates that the school meets or exceeds criteria that the accrediting agency has determined indicate excellence in education. As part of the accreditation process, the school undergoes periodic, voluntary review to confirm that programs offered continue to meet the Commission’s criteria. If any areas are identified as needing improvement, the school agrees to address them immediately. The engineering department is accredited by ABET and the business department is accredited by AACSB International. The Master of Social Work is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education while the Master of Library and Information Science is accredited by the American Library Association.

Indiana University Admissions Requirements

In order to apply for online programs at Indiana University must submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. One must show the conferring of a bachelor’s degree or higher unless the applicant is applying for accelerated programs. Applicants to accelerated programs may be required to provide official high school transcripts.

Indiana University Tuition and Financial Aid

Indiana University works to keep tuition as low as possible. In fact, Washington Monthly, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance and Fiske Guide to Colleges list the University as an excellent value.

Tuition for the Master of Library and Information Science program is $451.33 per credit hour for residents and $1,433.50 per credit hour for non-residents. Tuition for the Master of Science in Technology with an emphasis on Facilities Management is $453 per credit hour for Indiana residents and $608 per credit hour for non-residents. Tuition for the Master of Social Work is $573.75 for residents and $716 for non-residents.

Washington Monthly, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance, and Fiske Guide to Colleges all list Indiana University an excellent value. Financial aid is available and students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Graduate students may be offered loans to offset the cost of tuition.
