About Stevenson University
Stevenson University is a private university named after Stevenson, Maryland, which is home to the university’s main campus. It has a second campus in Owens Mill and offers online degree programs through Stevenson University Online. Established in 1947 by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, it originally had an affiliation with the Roman Catholic Church and served as a secretarial school for young women. The campus earned the nickname Seven Oaks due to the large oak trees on the property, which was once an estate owned by George Carroll Jenkins and his family.
Granted the approval needed from the Maryland Department of Education, the college became a junior college with two-year degree programs in 1948 and broke off from the Church in the 1960s. It established a Board of Trustees to handle the daily operations of the college. Known as Villa Julie College for many years, it became Stevenson University in 2008. Stevenson University Online grew out of the university’s School of Graduate and Professional Studies. The online division now offers programs in more than 10 subjects.

Stevenson has the accreditation necessary for students in need of financial aid, which comes from the Commission on Higher Education. This is the accreditation that allows students to apply for financial aid as early as October when they use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The American Bar Association (ABA), National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), Maryland State Department of Education and National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences are among the other groups that accredited the university and its degree programs.
Stevenson University Application Requirements
The admissions department at Stevenson University offers a clear list of requirements for incoming graduate students. They must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 in a college/undergrad degree program and possess a bachelor’s degree when their programs start. This allows students to apply during their final year of a bachelor’s program. Other requirements include a personal statement and a graduate school application. The personal statement must answer four questions:
*Why did the student pick Stevenson?
*How did the applicant prepare for graduate school?
*What relevant experiences does the student have regarding his or her program?
*What interests the student about that program?
Prospective students should visit the department that offers their future programs before they apply. This lets them view any requirements that the department has beyond the university itself. A program may ask for a GRE score or an official score from another entrance exam or a goal statement that lists any future goals the student has in the program and his or her career. Many programs also require letters of recommendation and ask students to use references who can speak to their professional experiences or work in school.

These loans have a low-interest rate and use the student’s credit history to determine how much they can borrow.
