There are seven undergraduate degree programs and six graduate programs available online through UTPB in four departments: business, nursing, liberal arts, and education. Most of these degrees are earned 100 percent online. The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology is a 120 credit-hour program. Students learn to use and apply research methodology, hone their creative and critical thinking skills, and employ ethics in the practice of psychology. The Bachelor of Arts in Political Science is a 120 credit-hour program as well. The degree path stresses global perspectives. It is earned 100 percent online, and students can minor in communication, psychology, or sociology. Students work with real-world social and political problems. They study politics on the state, national and international level as well as studying the US judicial system. They also learn how to address issues employing research and data analysis. The BBA in Management is another 120 credit-hour undergraduate program. Students in the degree path study accounting, finance, organizational behavior, operational theories, and business ethics.

The Master of Business Administration at UTPB is a 30-36 credit-hour program that can be completed in as few as 12 months. The focus of the program is on business strategies, collaborative teamwork, strategic leadership, and an interactive curriculum. Areas of study include Financial and Managerial Accounting; Quantitative and Behavioral Perspectives; Organizational Behavior and Business Research Methods and Strategic Management.

The RN-to-BSN program is a 31 credit-hour program. Courses are presented in eight-week segments and the degree can be earned in as few as twelve months. The degree features courses in transcultural nursing, community health and public health delivery systems, and the use of evidence-based literature in decision-making among other course areas. About The University of Texas of the Permian Basin

Located in Odessa, Texas, the University of Texas of the Permian Basin was founded in 1973. It has seen rapid growth because of the oil boom in the area. One of the quirky aspects of the school is that there is a Stonehenge replica on campus. There are also art centers and libraries, student resources, and Internet technology. According to student reviews, however, the university feels like a small school. One review even uses the word “cozy” to describe the campus. It is friendly, and one review said the courses were easy, not because the material was simple but because the professors went out of their way to ensure students succeeded.

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin consists of five schools: The College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, College of Engineering, College of Education, and the College of Nursing. Through these schools, the university awards degrees in 37 undergraduate programs and 18 graduate programs. The student population is diverse. There are two major “centers of excellence” on the campus. One of these, the JBS Public Leadership Institute, focuses on leadership education throughout the state and provides public speakers on national leadership issues. The other is the Center for Energy and Economic Diversification which concentrates on education and research in energy.

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin Accreditation Details

Accreditation of UTPB is through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Several programs are also specially accredited. The Educational programs are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation. In addition, accreditation for the education programs is given by the Texas Educational Agency Accountability System for Educator Preparation. Nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business accredits business programs including the BBA and the MBA. Athletic training programs are accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Athletic Training Education. The National Association of Schools of Music accredits the music programs. The bachelor’s in social work is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin Application Requirements

Freshmen applying to the university should complete the electronic application form. There is a $40 non-refundable application fee. Students should arrange for their high schools to submit their official transcripts including their GPA and class rank to UTPB. Any school where students completed college coursework should submit those transcripts as well. Additionally, students must arrange for the agencies that administered the SAT or ACT, whichever they took, to submit those scores to the university.

Students applying to the graduate school should complete the electronic application form and submit the $40 application fee. They must arrange for the university to receive the transcripts of undergraduate work completed and the scores of the GRE or GMAT if their programs require them. Graduate students must also submit other evidence as required by the individual graduate department to which they apply. Some of these could be letters of reference, a resume or CV, or other documents. Graduate students seeking certifications should complete the Texas Higher Education Assessment. Those seeking graduate business degrees should take the GMAT, and others may be required to take the GRE exam.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin has a fixed tuition program that guarantees tuition will not rise during a degree program. Eligible students can also apply for tuition rebates. The school website offers details about these programs. In general, undergraduate tuition is set at $4,312 per year. In addition, there are fees of $1, 462. Room and board are estimated at $10,800, and the university calculates another $1,000 is needed for books and supplies. In addition to this, students should allow for personal expenses. Graduate tuition is $2,220 per semester, but there are also books, supplies, and other fees. Online school tuition is $297per credit hour for undergraduate programs and $270 per credit hour for graduate programs.

Most students need assistance meeting their educational financial obligations. To get that assistance, students should first complete the FAFSA form. That program awards grants, work-study opportunities, and subsidized and unsubsidized loans to eligible individuals according to financial need. Texas offers additional grants such as the TEXAS Grant which covers tuition and fees to successful applicants who qualify financially and academically. If all the “free” money has been exhausted, students may avail themselves of work-study opportunities if they qualify for them or take out student loans. Regular loans with higher interest or credit card payments for tuition are not recommended.
