Online Degrees Available at UNT

There are five undergraduate degree programs available online at the University of North Texas, twenty-two graduate programs, and eighteen certifications. Bachelor’s degrees include Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Studies, Criminal Justice, and Information Science. There is a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences in Leadership Development and a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences in the Department of Community and Professional Programs. The Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Studies is a 120 credit-hour program that allows students to earn a specialization or certification with just 12 added credits. There are 42 hours of general education courses, 48 hours of general electives, and 42 hours of advanced-credit courses. There is also a one-semester internship. Sample courses include Microcounseling, Physical and Psychosocial Aspects of Addiction, and Addiction Counseling Models.

One of the featured graduate programs is the Accelerated Master of Education in Educational Leadership. This program prepares students to become principals or school administrators. It is a 30 credit-hour program contained in 10 courses. The coursework is delivered over an eight-week term. Full-time students can earn the degree in twelve months. The program emphasizes theory and research and field-based practical applications and prepares students to take the Texas Examination for Education Standards for Principal Certification. Sample classes in the Med in Educational Leadership program are Campus-Level School Law, Administration of the K-12 Curriculum, and the Practicum in Educational Leadership.

Students with a bachelor’s degree may earn the Graduate Academic Certificate in Police Executive Leadership. This is just one of the certifications offered online, and students may progress to the Master of Science in Criminal Justice with additional study. The program examines concepts and practices in law enforcement with an emphasis on management. There are nine credit hours in the certificate program contained in three classes: Seminar in Contemporary Policing, Seminar in Criminal Justice Administration, and Directed Studies in Police Executive Leadership. The certificate can be earned in one year taking one course each session.

The online programs at the University of North Texas carry the same accreditations as the traditional programs and follow the same curriculum so there is no difference in the quality of substance in an online degree.

The University of North Texas Accreditation Details

The University is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Several programs also have special accreditation. The Clinical Psychology Ph.D. and the Counseling Psychology Ph.D. are both accredited by the American Psychology Association Commission on Accreditation. The Commission on English Language Programs accredits English Language degrees. The music programs are accredited by the National Association for Schools of Music. The National Association of Schools of Art and Design accredit the art and design programs. The National Association for the Accreditation of Teacher Education accredits the baccalaureate and graduate degrees for teachers and other professionals serving in elementary and secondary schools. The Clinical Mental Health, School Counselor, Counselor Education and Supervision, and Student Affairs and College Counseling master’s and doctoral degrees are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs. There are additional programs that also have special accreditations.

The University of North Texas Application Requirements

Students applying to the school as first-time freshmen should apply online through the ApplyTexas or the Common Application. If the application is made by the priority date, a non-refundable fee of $75 must be included. If the priority date is missed, the fee is $90. The priority date changes each year and may be found on the school website. Students should arrange to have their high schools send the official transcripts of secondary coursework to the university either digitally or by mail. Transcripts of any post-secondary coursework should be sent by the colleges through which credits were earned. In addition, the agencies that administered the SAT or ACT test should submit the official scores to The University of North Texas. No letters of recommendation or essays are required with the application but may be requested by admission personnel at a later date.

Students applying as graduate students should apply to the Toulouse Graduate School through the ApplyTexas or Common Application, and indicate their chosen program. They must pay the $ 75 application fee when they apply. Students must arrange for the submission of all undergraduate transcripts by the schools where they were earned. In addition, they must arrange for testing agencies to submit the GMAT, GRE, or MAT test scores. Department and programs will require additional documentation like letters of reference and resumes, and these will be listed on the departmental webpage. During the application process, the graduate student should apply for scholarships, assistantships, and fellowships.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The average cost-to-attend for undergraduate students who are Texas residents is $25,444. Tuition and fees are $5,650 and the cost of room and board, books and supplies, other fees, and personal expenses account for the rest of the expense. The per-credit cost for undergraduate courses is $230.11. The university has a guaranteed tuition program called the Eagle Express, and tuition for that program is $251.77 per credit hour. The average cost-to-attend for graduate students is $21,646. Tuition for online undergraduate programs is $280 per credit hour. The cost of graduate programs varies by program. For instance, the cost of graduate programs in education is $367 per credit hour.

Although higher education is expensive, the federal government awards financial aid through its FAFSA. This program includes grants such as the Pell Grant and the SEOG, subsidized and unsubsidized student loans, and work-study opportunities to eligible individuals according to financial need. Texas also funds student grants. There are grants and scholarships available through the university as well. Some of these are based on financial need, some are academic excellence awards, and some are based on both need and merit. Individual departments and programs at the university award scholarships and grants and students may also have opportunities through their activities and athletics. Private individuals and service organizations like the International Lions Clubs fund scholarships, as do many corporations.
