About Ashland University

Ashland University originated on June 28, 1877, when local citizens agreed to raise $10,000 for German Baptist Brethren Church to open a local, coed higher learning institution. The next February, the Ohio Legislature initially chartered it as Ashland College. In Fall 1879, an inaugural class of 60 enrolled at Founders Hall on a 28-acre campus that’s since grown. On November 15, 2018, the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (HLC-NCA) Board of Trustees voted to extend the Level VI accreditation at Ashland University through 2028 under its 30th president, Dr. Carlos Campo, who received the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Association’s Excellence Award. A maximum of 12 master’s credits can be transferred if graded “C” or higher. Most online programs require meritorious GPAs above 3.0.
