Classes a student may take in the program include Introduction to Action Research Methods, Inclusive Setting Classroom Management Strategies, Theory & Practice in Teaching Language, Grammar, & Usage, and Teaching English Language Learners.
Students interested in majoring in a specific area of secondary education may wish to explore the Master of Education in Secondary Social Studies Education. The program offers instruction in several areas including social studies-specific pedagogy, social & cultural perspectives on education, research methods, and psychological perspectives on education. About the University of Pittsburgh
Established shortly after the Revolutionary War, the University of Pittsburgh was once known as Pittsburgh Academy. The school was transformed into a university a few decades later when it was officially chartered in 1819. Two large fires impacted the school in its early years, and it was relocated multiple times before it was moved to the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh. The school wouldn’t be known as the University of Pittsburgh until 1908, and it became a part of the state’s university system in the 1960s. University of Pittsburgh Accreditation Details
Institutional accreditation for the University of Pittsburg is granted by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Higher Education. For example, the program in Chemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences is accredited by the American Chemical Society for its baccalaureate degree program. The doctoral program in Clinical Psychology is accredited by the American Psychological Association. The program in Athletic Training is accredited by the National Athletic Trainers Association for its bachelor’s degree program, and the Council on Education of the Deaf has accredited the master’s degree specialization for Education of the Hearing Impaired. Additional programs with specialized accreditation include those in law, teaching, public administration, and social work, as well as several others.
University of Pittsburgh Application Requirements
When applying to the University of Pittsburgh, students must submit the school’s official online application, as well as provide evidence of a variety of educational accomplishments. The school recommends that high school students enroll in honors and advanced placement classes, as well as take the SAT and ACT multiple times to ensure the highest grade possible is submitted to the university. For example, full-time students from Pennsylvania will pay $18,130 when they enroll in a program within the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. Out-of-state tuition for students in that school is $29,682 for the year. Students in the Swanson School of Engineering will pay $19,340 for the year if they’re classified as in-state residents, and out-of-state students will pay $32,446 for the year. The school also requires a handful of mandatory fees paid by all students which include a Student Activity fee, Wellness fee, Computing & Network Services fee, and a Security, Safety, & Transportation fee. Students living on campus will pay $11,582 for accommodations with the charge varying based on whether a student chooses a single-occupancy or double-occupancy room.
Students may apply for federal financial aid when they attend the University of Pittsburgh, as well as qualify for scholarships, grants, and other types of financial assistance. When applying for federal financial aid, students may qualify for Federal Pell Grants if they can demonstrate a financial need for assistance, as well as Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, PHEAA Grants from the state of Pennsylvania, and grants from the Blind or Deaf Beneficiary Grant Program from Pennsylvania’s Higher Education Assistance Agency.
