About Lawrence Technological University
Lawrence Technological University was established in 1932 as the Lawrence Institute of Technology by Russell E. Lawrence for non-restrictive STEM education. Four years later, Lawrence’s inaugural class graduated at a building next to Henry Ford’s Model T production facility. In 1950, Lawrence debuted the first two-year Associate of Science degree. In 1955, Lawrence acquired the former General Mills research farm for a Southfield campus. One decade after, President Wayne H. Buell created the former commuter school’s first dorm. On March 31, 1965, Lawrence became an accreditation candidate with the North Central Association. In 1978, the Affleck Family donated their Bloomfield Hills home built by Frank Lloyd Wright to the Lawrence Institute. In 1989, the Lawrence Technological University name was adopted. On October 5, 2020, the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) has scheduled a comprehensive evaluation visit to Lawrence Technological University for the Institutional Actions Council to consider extending the Level VI accreditation status until 2030-31 under Provost Maria Vaz, PhD, who received the Crain’s Detroit Notable Women in STEM Award. Located 301 miles westward via Interstate 90 in Chicago, Illinois, this mega 19-state Midwest Region accreditor is recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Lawrence Technological University Application Requirements
Admission at Lawrence Technological University is classified as “selective” by the U.S. News & World Report because only 59.6 percent of the 2,398 Fall 2018 applicants were chosen. Post-grad Blue Devils entering the Online Learning Division must finish 120+ credits of regionally accredited bachelor’s preparation. Equivalent three-year foreign programs are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. The Master of Architecture requires a pre-professional B.S. in Architecture degree. Online Master of Engineering Management cohorts must fulfill course prerequisites with STEM majors. The MS in Civil Engineering demands an ABET-accredited undergraduate education. Non-engineering graduates must take at least three foundational courses first. Lawrence Tech enforces a 3.0 cumulative GPA minimum. Up to nine master’s credits graded “C” or better could transfer. Taking the Graduate Record Exam is wholly optional. The Master of Business Administration seeks a 500 GMAT score or better. Non-native English speakers also need at least 6.5 IELTS, 550 TOEFL pBT, or equivalent scores.
The Office of Graduate Admissions at Lawrence Technological University set a final Fall deadline of July 24th. Online Master of Architecture cohorts must file by July 15th. For Spring Starts, post-grads must apply before December 11th. International student deadlines are May 24th for Fall and October 11th for Spring. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2020-21, Lawrence Technological University is billing $1,250 per credit for graduate courses. Only on-campus College of Arts & Sciences programs cost $945 per credit. Certain courses, such as engineering labs and architectural studios, incur fees of $40 to $90. The Laptop Program comes with a $95 per credit charge. International student fees are $250 each semester. Off-site Michigan TEC Center courses are discounted to $665 per credit. The TACOM Program requires $600 per credit. Non-refundable student activity fees add $150 by term. Employees of Automation Alley members subtract $250 per credit for master’s courses. Online 30-credit graduate degrees have an estimated total of $37,500. The 36-credit Online MBA and Master of Architecture are priced $45,000 overall.
The National Center for Education Statistics reports that the One-Stop Enrollment Center on Taubman Center’s 1st Floor links 97 percent of new, full-time LTU Blue Devils to financial aid averaging $15,552 each for $5.34 million in total. The $500 Society of Women Engineers Scholarship has an April 10th deadline for female STEM majors who write strong 1,000-word essays. The GMAT Based Merit Scholarship gives $1,000 to Online Master of Business Administration students achieving 570 or higher scores.
