About Concordia University at Ann Arbor
Concordia University at Ann Arbor is a private university affiliated with the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (LCMS). The LCMS bought several pieces of real estate in Michigan in the 1960s that included the large estate owned by the Earhart family called Earhart Manor. More than 260 students attended the university when it opened in 1964. Originally called Concordia Lutheran Junior College, it became Concordia College in the 1970s. Financial issues and other problems almost led to the college closing, but it then reached an agreement with Concordia University to merge with that system. This led to the college becoming Concordia University at Ann Arbor or CCUA in 2014. CCUA further expanded its curriculum after acquiring a campus of the Thomas M. Cooley Law School. The university used that campus as its new School of Nursing, which now offers graduate and undergraduate nursing programs for residential and online students.
Concordia University at Ann Arbor Accreditation Details
The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCACS) originally awarded regional accreditation to CUAA. It now has that accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), which means that any student can use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year to get financial aid. The Michigan campus and the online campus have accreditation from other organizations too, including the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and American Bar Association (ABA).
Concordia University at Ann Arbor Application Requirements
Students applying to CUAA must meet the application requirements of each specific degree program and the requirements of the university’s graduate school too. That school requires that incoming students have a bachelor’s degree and that they submit transcripts that show they took courses in related subjects and finished their degrees. There is a small application fee due and an essay that requires students to write a short essay and add it to the application. It should explain why they want to earn a graduate degree and what they will do after finishing their studies. Most programs ask for a recent resume and two letters of recommendation too. Each letter should have the author’s signature at the bottom.
The family life program is just one of the university’s programs with a grade point average requirement of 3.0 or higher. This program also asks that students have a minimum of 120 hours of volunteer experience outside of college and that they pass a criminal background check. The head of the department will interview each student who applies and ask them questions about why they picked CUAA and how the university will help them achieve their professional goals. Students may need to interview for a spot in some of the other online master’s degree programs too.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Most of the CUAA online graduate programs charge a per credit hour rate. The education programs all charge $814 per credit hour. Students in the business administration, computer science, and leadership programs pay $740 per credit hour. In the professional MBA program that is only open to students with business experience, majors pay $896 per credit hour. Students also pay a $35 technology fee each semester and a $60 application fee when they apply to CUAA.
Students receive a bill from CUAA at the beginning of each semester that shows how much they owe for the term and when the balance is due. They can set up a payment plan after paying a small fee, which allows them to make several payments on their balances over the next few months. Students can use a reimbursement program for an employer and apply for financial aid too. Once CUAA receives the FAFSA, it will design a financial aid package and ask the student to agree to use that plan. Most graduate students receive unsubsidized federal loans. Concordia University at Ann Arbor accepts alternative loans, scholarships, and other types of funding that students receive in its online master’s degree programs too.
