About Lewis University
Lewis University originated in July 1931 when German Franciscan Brothers Lewis, Hildolph, and Fabian arrived in Romeoville to develop the Holy Name Technical School for young men. On January 2, 1935, it was renamed the Lewis Holy Name School of Aeronautics after Frank J. Lewis. After WWII ended, it became the Lewis College of Science & Technology. In 1951, women were first admitted as liberal arts programs grew. In 1954, the Sancta Alberta Chapel was designated for worship services. In 1962, President Paul McGinnis adopted the Lewis College name. In 1968, an unsuccessful merger with the College of St. Francis was attempted. On July 2, 1973, Lewis University was officially born with graduate-level courses available. In 2005, the Educational Leadership for Teaching and Learning EdD became the first doctorate.

On March 18, 2019, Lewis University successfully submitted an in-depth evaluation visit by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (HLC-NCA) to renew the Institutional Status Report for current Level V accreditation through 2029 under the 10th president, Dr. David Livingston. Located 33 miles northeast via Interstate 55 on Chicago’s La Salle Street, this mega 19-state Midwest Region accreditor is recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE). Lewis University Application Requirements
Enrolling at Lewis University is classified “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s because only 2,932 of the 5,447 Fall 2018 applicants were chosen for selective 54 percent acceptance. Prospective post-grad Flyers must have completed at least 120 bachelor’s-level credits at regionally accredited institutions. Online Aviation & Transportation MS needs to finish an FAA-approved baccalaureate major. Each Online MSN track requires a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with prerequisites like Nursing Research graded B or higher and state licensure. Cumulative GPAs of 3.0 and better are mandated in the last two undergrad years. The Public Safety Administration MS demands 12 prerequisite credits in criminal justice fields. International students need a minimum 79 TOEFL, 6.0 IELTS, 52 PTE, or 1200 GTEC score. If taken, GRE General Test scores above 300 are preferred. Online Doctor of Nursing Practice cohorts must have 3.25 master’s GPAs and two years of RN experience.
Lewis University’s School of Graduate, Professional & Continuing Education generally has rolling admission to start any eight-week term. However, it’s suggested international students apply by June 1st for Fall or November 1st for Spring. Online MSN cohorts must apply before April 2nd or October 1st.
