Online Degrees Available at Washington State University

Wazzu now offers nine different graduate programs for online students, but some of these programs have different tracks or concentrations. One example is its Master of Arts in Agriculture, which is available in a Plant Health Management track and a Food Science and Management track. The Food Science and Management program requires that students take Research and Extension in Agriculture and Statistical Methods in Research before taking any higher courses. They will then take 11 credits of Food Science courses, including Food Quality Management and Food Toxicology, and six credits of management courses such as Project Management and Supervision and Leadership.
The Food Science program allows students to learn more about the research and development of foods, while the Plant health Management program teaches them more about working directly with the plants used in those foods. This program features the same two required agricultural research classes and six credits of management classes. Students will also take nine credits of plant health courses such as Soil Fertility Management and Weed Management. WSU offers the food science program as both a degree and a certificate program.
Students who want to teach and teachers who need to continue their education can apply to the university’s Masters in Special Education program. This program ensures that students are competent in the key areas that the state of Washington requires those getting their teaching credentials. Students will earn 37 credits for the classes they take and for the last thing they do in the program. WSU allows them to do an independent or directed study project, but they can also take a comprehensive exam in lieu of doing a final project. Education majors will take classes that include Secondary Education for Students with Disabilities, Education of Exceptional Children, Social Foundations of Education and Prevention, and Remediation of Reading Disabilities.
Wazzu offers both a Master of Business Administration and an Executive MBA online. The main difference between the two is that the executive program assumes that students already have both business and leadership experience. This accredited program ranked at number 12 on the U.S. News & World Report list of the best online MBA programs. Available from its Carson College of Business, the MBA program offers concentrations in international business and marketing. Students can also choose a finance concentration or enroll in a general version of the MBA program. Wazzu is one of the only universities with a concentration available in hospitality business management too. Washington State University asks students to list the concentrations they want to study when applying to this program.
About Washington State University
Washington State University is the name of a public university in Washington and a number of smaller regional campuses operated by the same school. Founded in 1890 as the Agricultural College, Experiment Station, and School of Science of the State of Washington, it kept this name for 15 years. Known for its agricultural programs and for the research opportunities for students, it changed its name to the State College of Washington after introducing programs in other fields. It wasn’t until the later 1950s that it became Washington State University. The school now goes by the names of WSU and Wazzu.
WSU has one large campus in Pullman, which serves as its flagship campus. It also operates smaller campuses in Vancouver and the Tri-Cities area as well as a small regional center in Spokane. The Pullman campus has an enrollment of more than 17,000, but across all its campuses, the university has an enrollment of more than 24,000 students. Washington Monthly ranked WSU as the nation’s 24th best college, and both Forbes and U.S. News & World Report ranked the university on a national scale. It ranks as one of the world’s best universities also. WSU has a strong reputation for the online programs that it now offers, which sprang out of the old distance education and correspondence programs that it once offered.
Washington State University Accreditation Details
WSU is a regionally accredited public university that has accreditation from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Any student who needs financial aid and wants to get loans from the federal government must attend a college or university with regional accreditation. NCCU accreditation also allows students who earned credits in the past to transfer those courses into one of the WSU programs. This university has accreditation from some of the top organizations and agencies relating to different fields of study such as psychology and business too.
Washington State University Application Requirements
Students interested in attending the Wazzu Global Campus, which is the name given to its online campus, can request more information from the school before they apply. They can then submit the application itself. The university has a priority deadline for fall applications of January 1 but accepts applications through August. Those who apply by the priority deadline have a better chance of getting an acceptance letter because the university may run out of room later in the year. It also has a priority deadline of July 1 for those who want to start in the spring semester. All students will pay a $75 application fee too.
The only general requirement that Wazzu has is that graduate students must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited school before starting classes. They can submit their official transcripts to the university to show proof that they have their degrees. Some programs may ask for an official GRE or GMAT score and the date that the student took one of those exams. Depending on what they want to study, the university may ask students for letters of recommendation, a resume, and/or writing samples too.
Tuition and Financial Aid
The Global Campus of WSU charges the same tuition rate as all other branches of the university do. Students pay just $509 per credit hour. A full-time student will pay $4,581 per semester, which allows them to take a full nine credits of classes. Only those enrolled full-time in a graduate program will qualify for a student loan. The federal government offers both standard student loans and graduate PLUS loans that charge a slightly lower interest rate. Students must submit the FAFSA to receive a loan, but their answers will also determine if they qualify for any other aid. Students may want to consider alternative loans too.
