Online Master’s Programs at the University of Wyoming

The Master of Arts in Education can be earned in several areas of specialization. The Master of Arts in Education, Curriculum, and Instruction are for teachers who want to hone their professional skills. Within the degree program are areas of specialization that lead to state endorsement. These are Early Childhood, English as a Second Language, Literacy, or Teaching American Indian Children.

The degree program is a collaboration with the Department of Educational Studies, The Department of ECE/ Elementary Education, and the Department of Secondary Education. It is not an “online-only” program. Students may pursue the degree in a non-thesis or thesis option. Both require the completion of 32 credit hours of coursework.

The Master of Education can also be earned in Educational Leadership, Special Education, or in Online Instructional Technology. The Educational Leadership specialization is an internship-based program that results in an M.A. in Education, Educational Administration, and a Cognate in K-12 Educational Leadership with a potential for endorsement in Wyoming as a school principal.

The Special Education endorsement is for teachers who want to improve their skills in teaching students with special needs. After successful completion, they may apply to the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board for endorsement in K-12 Special Education.

The Online Master of Business Administration is presented in a cohort-based 30-credit-hour program. Courses are lock-step sequenced. The core curriculum includes Financial Accounting; Business Research Methods; Financial Management; Managerial Accounting; Marketing Analysis; Decision Modeling and more.

There is also an Online Energy MBA which is intended for professionals in the energy industry. In addition to the core MBA courses, students in this program take Supply Chain Management in The Energy Industry; Energy Finance: Project Evaluation, and Fundamentals of Accounting in the Energy Industry.

The Master of Science in Nursing is an online program for nurse educators in an academic or health-related field. The areas addressed in the program are Transformation; Communication; Interconnecting Global; Perspectives; Outcomes Orientation and Rural Public Health.

This program is for nurses who have a bachelor’s degree in nursing. It can be earned with a nurse educator or a nurse leader concentration. The program can be completed in five semesters and requires an on-campus new student orientation.

The Master of Science in Health Services Administration is for new pharmacists, or those at a mid-career level, and for other healthcare professionals who want careers as directors and/or department coordinators. It is also for people who want to work in regulatory compliance and other healthcare administrator fields.

The degree can be completed in two years, part-time. There are two required on-campus weekends in the program. This degree requires 30 hours of coursework completion and a comprehensive final exam.

There are several other online graduate degrees including a Master of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences: Human Development and Family Sciences that requires 30 credit hours of coursework and a Master of Science in Kinesiology and Health that is intended for certified physical education teachers. The last degree is offered only as a non-thesis option which means students must research and complete a written report.

About the University of Wyoming at Laramie

This public university was founded as a land grant school in 1886. There are seven colleges in the university including the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, The College of Arts and Sciences, The College of Business, The College of Education, the College of English and Applied Sciences, The College of Health Sciences, and the School of Law.

University of Wyoming Application Requirements

First-time freshmen may apply online using the school application of, if applying to several schools at once, the Common Application. There is a non-refundable $40 application fee. Students must arrange for their high school to submit their official transcript but must have a copy in hand when they apply in order to be able to list courses and credits correctly. They must also arrange to have their official SAT or ACT scores sent to the university. They are encouraged to begin the process during their senior year of high school.

Graduate students apply directly to the department where their degree resides. Requisites differ by program.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Undergraduate tuition at the University of Wyoming is $17,122 per year for residents. Additionally, room and board add another $4,489 per year. With fees and other expenses, the cost of a year of undergraduate study at this school will be more than $21,362.

Graduate tuition, room, and board, and fees are estimated at $23,349 per year. The cost for distance-learning students averages $261 plus a $25 technology fee per credit.

The school recommends that students complete a FAFSA application as soon as possible. Wyoming has some grants and scholarships for students, but most are intended for undergraduates. Graduate students, however, can find some assistance through university scholarships and departmental awards. Additionally, some corporations fund grants and scholarships for students in their industries. Departments at the university often have assistantships and student-teaching opportunities available as well.
