The online degrees from Asbury University are designed for working adults who want to complete their degrees and don’t have time to enroll in a traditional college setting. Undergraduate degrees are available in the areas of education, ministry, social work, and business, and students may also enroll in graduate programs in areas like media, film, and business. Online Classes are offered in an accelerated format where the entire program is completed online. Classes delivered online are given beginning in the months of August, October, January, and March and last eight weeks each. Each credit hour costs $399, and financial aid is available to students enrolled in online programs. Graduate degree options include the Master of Arts in Communication: Digital Storytelling, as well as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and an MBA with an emphasis in Nonprofit Management.

Online Degrees Available at Asbury University

Students interested in the Master of Arts in Communication: Digital Storytelling degree will experience a faith-based curriculum that encourages students to collaborate with one another during their online classroom experiences. The degree is designed for students who have an undergraduate degree in a media-related area, as well as students who have not yet completed classes in areas like multi-cam studio television, editing, and audio work. Students without prior experience in media will need to take prerequisites like Television Production, Audio Production, and Digital Field Production. Students will then move onto the Digital Storytelling Core, which requires that students complete 15 credits in classes like Master Storyteller’s Seminar, Viral Marketing, Methods, Messages, Media, and Communication Research Methods.

Future students at Asbury University who wish to complete a degree in business may want to investigate the Traditional MBA or the Nonprofit Management MBA. Both business degrees are available online in eight-week sessions where students work together in a cohort format to complete their assignments. Students can complete their MBA degree in as few as 20 months, as well as choose a part-time schedule that will take four years for program completion. Classes in the MBA programs include History of Business, Faith & Ethics, Strategic Marketing, and Managerial Economics.

About Asbury University

Asbury University was founded in 1890 in the educational traditions of the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition but operates today as a non-denominational institution of higher learning. The liberal arts college has between 1,800 and 1,900 students attending classes with just over 200 of those students studying at the graduate level. There are 50 majors from which to choose at Asbury University that are offered from 17 departments. The majority of the faculty working at the university are employed full-time by the school, which was once known as Asbury College. As a Christian college, the school is a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities and the Christian College Consortium.

At its inception, the school was known as Kentucky Holiness College, but it was renamed in honor of Bishop Francis Asbury, who is considered the father of the Methodist Church in the United States. Today, the school’s students come from 44 different states and more than 40 countries. Within the university, degree programs are offered from one of three areas including the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Education, and the School of Communication. Graduate degrees at the university are offered through the School of Graduate and Professional Studies.

Asbury University Accreditation Details

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges is the institutional accreditation body for Asbury University and has accredited the university for the purposes of awarding associate, baccalaureate, and master’s degrees. Some programs at the university are also accredited, and the university is also a member of various organizations meant to ensure students receive a quality educational experience while enrolled at Asbury University. For example, the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education has accredited the programs offered by the School of Education, and all licensure programs at the university are approved by the Kentucky Educational Professional Standards Board. The university is also part of the National Association of Schools of Music through institutional membership. Other memberships held by the university include those with the Council of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities, Institute of Holy Land Studies, and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Asbury University Application Requirements

Applying to Asbury University begins when the student determines his or her status as a freshman, transfer student, international student, or returning student. Students may also enter the university as non-degree-seeking students. General application materials for freshmen students at Asbury University include a completed application form, a high school transcript, and standardized test scores. If the student is interested in applying to a graduate program, the transcript should come from the student’s undergraduate college or university. The minimum admissions grade point average is 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants must achieve a minimum score of 1020 on the SAT or an ACT composite score of 22. Students who can’t meet these standards may be eligible for admission on a provisional basis.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Undergraduate students from Kentucky will pay $14,950 per semester in tuition to attend Asbury University. The cost for online degree completion tuition through the school’s bachelor’s degree programs for busy adults is $399 for each credit hour. The tuition cost for dual enrollment where high school students take college courses before they graduate varies from $144 to $499 a semester. Online degrees cost $399, and graduate programs cost between $475 and $595 per credit hour. Students who choose to live on campus at Asbury University will pay between $2,011 and $2,535 per semester based on the type of living situation chosen. On-campus students will also pay between $732 and $1,569 per semester for meals based on a 7-meal, 14-meal, or 20-meal plan.

Asbury University offers 98% of its students some type of financial aid and scholarships, and students at all levels of enrollment are eligible for financial aid awards. The university expects its students to pay for school with a combination of money from federal aid, state aid, institutional assistance, outside sources, and the student’s family. Students may be eligible for financial aid even if they don’t enroll full-time and take between one and eleven credits per semester. After a student is admitted to the university, he or she must make sure all necessary documents are forwarded to the financial aid office to ensure an award letter is generated before tuition and other school costs are due for the semester.
