Mississippi College is a Christian institution that gives students the opportunity to learn in a faith-based context. Many of the master’s programs at this school are offered online, and several are offered in an accelerated format.

The Master of Accountancy (M.Acc.) is a 30 semester-hour accelerated online program that is intended for students who have an undergraduate degree in accounting. It provides the necessary education hours to sit for the CPA as well as prepare students for further study.

There are 15 credit-hours in the core including Federal Tax Accounting; Advanced Managerial Accounting; Auditing Concepts and Applications; Accounting Theory; and Law and Ethics in a Business Environment. There are also nine credits required to be chosen from a prescribed list and six hours of general electives in the program. The program is presented in accelerated eight-week sessions.

The Master of Business Administration is another online master’s program that is available online and in an accelerated format. The degree contains 36 credit-hours and can be earned in 12 months in the accelerated format. Assets of the program are a faith-based curriculum, a transcultural approach, problem-based learning, cohort groups and portfolio development.

There are multiple start dates, making the degree flexible. It comprises ten courses with classes in eight-week sessions. Some of these courses are: Managing in a Global Economy; Financial Management; Quantitative Management; Organizational Behavior; and Law and Ethics in a Business Environment. Graduates of this program are also eligible for an MBA with a K-12 Administration endorsement. There is also an online MBA in Accounting and one in Finance, though neither of these is offered in an accelerated format.

There are two teaching arts online degree programs including the M.Ed Teaching Arts, 4-8 and the M.Ed. Teaching Arts, Secondary Education.

The Master of Education, Special Education is an online degree program available in an accelerated format that is intended for licensed teachers but not for those who completed preparation for this field in their initial certification. It allows them to add a specialization in mild/moderate special education K-12 to their teaching licenses. Students can prepare for careers as special education teachers, resource teachers or intervention specialists, and can complete the program in as few as 10 months.

The Master of Science in Communication: Professional Communication in Sports is available in traditional classroom format or online but not in an accelerated format. It contains 16 hours of core courses including Public Relations; Communications Research; Process and Effects of Communication; Persuasion; a convocation paper; a seminar in journalism ethics; and a comprehensive written exam. Students also take 12 credit-hours of kinesiology and a communications ethics class.

The Master of Science Nursing-Clinical Nurse Leader Track is another online program that does not come as an accelerated program. It contains a minimum of 36 credit-hours and requires 400 hours of supervised clinical experience including 40 hours of immersion.

The Online Ed.S. in Educational Leadership K-12 Administration is an advanced online degree that can be earned in an accelerated track. The Christian worldview is integrated into this 41 credit-hour program that prepares students to become leaders in school administration. Before they graduate, students must pass the School Leaders Licensure Assessment. Areas of study include personnel management, principles of fiscal management, legal issues and others. The accelerated program may be completed in as few as 12 months.

Other accelerated online master’s degrees at this school include the M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction; the M.Ed. in Elementary Education; The M.Ed. in Educational Leadership; and the Ed. S. in Curriculum Development.

This school was founded in 1826 and is the oldest university in Mississippi. It is also the second largest Southern-Baptist-Affiliated school in the US. The liberal arts college in Clinton, Mississippi, contains five schools including a graduate school. It also has a law school in Jackson, Mississippi and partnerships with other institutions such as Auburn University that allow this college to offer a diverse assortment of degree programs.

Mississippi College Application Requirements

Students applying to this college should apply online. They should arrange for their high schools to submit their official transcripts. The school also must receive the official results of the ACT or SAT tests. There is a non-refundable $25 application fee as well. Students must provide an immunization certificate and should also pay a provisional housing deposit of $200 to reserve their place in a residence.

Graduate students also apply online and provide official transcripts of all undergraduate coursework completed as well as any required test scores. The non-refundable application fee for graduate students is $35. There are other requirements that vary by program, so applicants should check their department web pages.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Full-time undergraduate students at Mississippi College pay about $9,100 per semester in tuition. There are also fees which apply. Room and board vary but run between $2,850 to $6,950 per semester. Meal plans cost between $1,565 and $2,000 per semester.

Graduate students pay an average of $645 per credit-hour plus fees, and online courses vary by program. The M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, for instance, is $331.67 per credit-hour and the M.Ed. in Special Education is $365 per credit-hour. Again, other fees apply as well.

Students who need assistance paying for their degree programs should begin by completing a FAFSA form. Mississippi has a few programs for student aid, but these generally do not apply to graduate students. The school has a President’s Scholarship Competition and other academic scholarships, but these, again, are generally for undergraduates. There are also needs-based programs at Mississippi College.
