UWG offers many online and partially online degrees in a variety of disciplines.

The online Master of Education with a major in media offers two specializations: instructional technology and school library media. Both degrees are grounded in academic theory and professional practice. Graduates of the Instructional Technology degree program learn how to apply their skills and knowledge in a variety of industries, such as schools, corporations, health care, and government. Instructional Technology students use technological tools and applications to collaborate with stakeholders. Graduates of the School Library Media program are prepared to manage the library, educational, and digital media collections.

The Master of Business Administration is a 10-course program that takes five semesters or 18 months to complete. The Richards College of Business is a member of The Georgia WebMBA, which offers exclusive educational quality and convenience. This program uses the best business professors from six University System of Georgia colleges. There is an initial 2-day orientation held in Atlanta that revolves around team interaction, program overviews, and introductions to professors, administrators and past graduates. This program includes the following classes: managerial accounting, strategic marketing, business strategy, management information systems, and human behavior in organizations.

The Master of Public Administration program is designed for current public servants and those seeking careers in government or nonprofits. Students in this program learn about the importance of public budgeting and financial management, so they’ll explore how governments collect, spend and manage tax revenue. Students will be expected to create budgets, use economic data, write policies and apply cash and accounting principles. Students must learn about public administration ethics and theories so they will be prepared for common dilemmas regarding conflicting perspectives, democratic accountability, bureaucratic responsibility, and official culpability. Class titles include public organizational theory, public policy analysis, and administrative law and procedures.

The University of West Georgia is located in Carrollton, just west of Atlanta. The 645-acre campus serves about 13,520 students each year. They have been repeatedly named one of the best southeastern colleges by national organizations. The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education has classified the University of West Georgia as a R3-Doctoral University. The Carnegie Classification, which ranks doctoral research levels in universities, has three tiers. R3 means a moderate level of doctoral research.

The University of West Georgia is the sixth-largest public university in the state. The university is divided into six colleges and one school. These include the Honors College, the Richards College of Business, and the Tanner Health System School of Nursing. Together, they offer 88 fields of study at the bachelor’s, master’s, specialist, and doctoral levels. The most popular undergraduate majors are biology, psychology, management, and early childhood education. The top graduate majors are media, nursing, teacher education, and professional counseling.

The average GPA of incoming freshmen is 3.21. Students from 38 states and 73 countries attend the university every year. The university’s first-ever capital raising campaign resulted in $31 million that has been used to contribute to the state’s economy. In fact, the university contributes $564 million every year to the state economy. This includes the direct employment of over 1,800 employees and the indirect employment of 5,350 jobs in the west Georgia region. There are over 160 student organizations that include areas of interest like politics, science, academics, culture, recreation, and professional.

University of West Georgia Accreditation Details

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges accredits the University of West Georgia. The educational degrees are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation. The College of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business – International.

University of West Georgia Application Requirements

The online application requires official transcripts with graduate entrance exams such as the GRE and GMAT. Students may only qualify for in-state tuition rates after they verify their lawful presence in Georgia. Admitted students must submit proof of immunizations. For most graduate programs, applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college. The Master of Education with a Major in Media requires applicants to have at least a 2.7 GPA.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Undergraduate online courses cost $469 per credit hour. Graduate online courses cost $517 per credit hour. The online Master of Business Administration program costs $601 per credit hour. Students who take both on-campus and online courses in a single term must pay campus fees and the higher online tuition rate. Financial aid opportunities are available through the following programs: Federal Work-Study, HOPE/Zell Miller, Pell Grants, Scholarships, Federal Student Loans, and Vocational Rehabilitation.

The Federal Work-Study program is not a grant or scholarship. The university cannot guarantee that any student who qualifies for the Work-Study program will be given a job. The program pays up to $3,000 per academic year. Financial need and funding allotment are determined by the FAFSA. The on- and off-campus jobs are part-time.

There is state financial aid available through the HOPE Program. These include the Accel, HOPE and Zell Miller scholarship. The HOPE Scholarship is for residents of Georgia who maintain a 3.0 GPA and meet academic progress rules. The tuition rate for these students is $162 per credit hour. The Zell Miller scholarship is reserved for incoming freshmen with a 3.7 GPA who must maintain a 3.3 GPA during the freshman year. The tuition rate for the Zen Miller scholarship is $177 per credit hour.

There are private student loans available that are similar to Federal Direct Loans. They offer interest rates that are based on credit scores. These loans usually have higher fees and interest rates. Eligibility for a private student loan will depend on the offered or accepted federal, state, and university financial aid. This means that the cost of attendance is subtracted from the eligibility for other aid to determine the private loan eligibility amount. Each national lender has its own methods for determining repayment and interest rates. Readers should note that applying for many private loans may impact a credit score.
