Online Master’s Degrees Through McKendree University

The Master of Arts in Criminal Justice is a 36-hour program. Students can complete the program in 18 months if they choose to attend full-time. Part-time students should be able to receive the degree in two years. Students must take five core courses as part of this degree. These courses are Advanced Studies in Criminal Justice, Criminology Theory, Research in Criminal Justice (levels I and II), and Ethics, the Law, and Individual Rights.

The Master of Arts in Education program has multiple fields as options. Students can pursue an MAED in Higher Education Administrative Services or an MAED in Curriculum Design and Instruction. Conversely, students can earn teaching endorsements. These areas of focus include elementary education, middle school education, mathematics, secondary education, language arts, social science, science, history, political science, psychology, biology, chemistry, physical education, special education, reading and teacher leadership.

The online MBA from McKendree University can be pursued solo or with a concentration in either human resource management or cyber defense. All MBA students must complete 12 courses worth a total of 36 credits. Some of these courses are Accounting for Managers, Corporate Finance and Organizational Behavior. Students may be accepted into the MBA program if they don’t have undergraduate business degrees, but these students must take additional foundation courses in accounting, economics, marketing, and statistics.

The Online Master of Nursing degree includes eight-week and 16 week courses. Students can choose to focus in nursing education, nursing management/administration or public health. Students can also earn a dual online master’s degree in nursing and business administration. This degree can be completed on a full-time or part-time basis. Unlike other online master’s degrees at McKendree University, the dual degree is comprised of 60 credit hours. Full-time students may be able to complete these degrees in two years. Part-time students should be able to earn their degrees in four years.

About McKendree University

McKendree University is a private university based in Lebanon, Illinois. The school was founded as a seminary in 1828, making it the oldest higher learning institution in Illinois. The school is ranked as 53rd in Regional Universities Midwest by U.S. News and World Report.

In addition to the online campus and McKendree University’s home campus in Lebanon, the school has campuses at Scott Air Force Base and Radcliff, Kentucky. Like the online campus, these extended sites focus on providing educational opportunities to adult learners and professionals.

Online students do not live on campus, but they are invited to attend alumni events. These events include Founder’s Day in February, the Bearcat Golf Tournament in June and Homecoming in October.

McKendree University is a part of the NCAA Division II. The school offers 16 sports from its home campus. Along with football, basketball and baseball, McKendree University also offers ice hockey, powerlifting, water polo, bowling and lacrosse.

McKendree University Accreditation Details

McKendree University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. This accreditation allows the university to award baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral degrees. In addition, the McKendree University online MBA program is accredited by the International Assembly of Collegiate Business Education. The online master’s degree program in nursing at McKendree University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

McKendree University Application Requirements

Any applicant for a McKendree University online graduate degree must complete a graduation admission application. They must also supply transcripts from all previously attended universities. At least one of these transcripts should provide proof of having graduated with a baccalaureate degree.

Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA in undergraduate studies to be considered for the master’s degree programs. They must also provide a CV or resume and three professional references. In addition, these applicants must complete an essay stating personal and professional goals as they related to the chosen field of study.

Prospective graduate degrees in nursing must meet all of the above requirements. In addition, they must hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, have a valid registered nurse license and complete an interview.

Students who wish to receive a teaching endorsement are considered non-degree seeking. Because of this, these students do not have as many application requirements as other areas. Students only need to complete the online application and provide undergraduate transcripts.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition for online master’s degree programs in criminal justice, business and education at McKendree University is $510 per credit hour. All online courses are charged an additional $70 fee per credit hour. Students must also pay a $210 e-learning technology fee. Most courses are three hour credits, which makes them $1,800 per course. Master’s degrees in nursing are $485 per credit hour. Like other online courses, students are charged an additional $70 fee per hour and a $210 e-learning fee per course.

Students can earn financial aid to help pay for online graduate studies. Completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, determines qualification for federal and state grants. The FAFSA is also used as a determining factor for most student loans. McKendree University offers loans to graduate students that cannot exceed $20,500 per year or a total of $138,500.

McKendree University offers a payment plan for graduate students. Students can pay tuition on a monthly basis without earning interest. Some students may qualify for scholarships to offset the cost of tuition. McKendree University does not offer any institutional scholarships for graduate students, but outside scholarships are accepted.

Many students who attend McKendree University are eligible for employer reimbursement. Students who are offered reimbursement by their employers must make the university financial aid office aware in writing. The reimbursable amount will be deferred, but any amount the student owes to the university accumulates with interest until it is paid.
