Roosevelt University allows its students to take classes at its campuses in Illinois, as well as online, and offers several undergraduate and graduate programs that don’t require any time spent in a classroom. Programs offered online feature eight and 16-week lengths that allow students to work toward their degrees in a format that suits their personal scheduling needs.

Roosevelt University participates in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements, which means students can take classes and enjoy the benefits of an accredited program even if they don’t live in Illinois where Roosevelt University is based. Many of the online programs have multiple starting dates throughout the year and offer fall, spring, and summer terms.
Prospective graduate students can enroll in programs that include a Master’s in Accounting Forensics, a Master’s in Organizational Development, a Master’s in Second Language Special Education, a Master’s in Teaching and Learning, and a Master’s in Training and Development. Programs tend to require around 30 credits to complete and may be earned on a full-time or part-time basis.
For the Master’s in Accounting Forensics, students will take classes like Issues in Asset Valuation, Financial Statements and Fraud, and Anti-Money Laundering. Students can use the program to prepare for work as Certified Public Accountants, Certified Fraud Examiners, Certified Internal Auditors, or Certified Managerial Accountants.
For the Master’s in Organization Development, students will explore topics like information technology, globalization, and managerial innovation. The graduate-level organizational development degree at Roosevelt University was one of the first such degrees offered online in the United States. Classes in the program include Team Building and Leadership Skills, Managing Organizational Change, and Career Development in Organizations.
The Master’s in Second Language Special Education is flexible in that it allows current teachers to begin their courses in any season. At the conclusion of the program, students may add the LBS1 and Bilingual/ESL endorsements to their Illinois teaching licenses. Examples of courses taken in the program include Foundations of Bilingual and ESL Education and Methods and Materials for Teaching ESL.
The Master’s in Teaching and Learning program also enables teachers to add an endorsement to their teaching credential, as well as start classes in any season. Students may pursue one of several concentrations like special education, early childhood special education, and spoken word education.
About Roosevelt University
Roosevelt University is a private university located in Illinois. The university was founded in 1945 and is named after Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt. More than 4,400 students attend the university, which has two campuses in Schaumburg and Chicago. The college was founded by Edward J. Sparling, who wanted to create a school where enrollment of African Americans, immigrants, Jews, and women would not be restricted.
When the university was first established, it had no campus, library, or endowment. The college was originally named Thomas Jefferson College, but it was renamed soon after the death of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Today, the university is divided into six schools that include the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Education, and the Evelyn T. Stone College of Professional Studies.
Roosevelt University Accreditation Details
Roosevelt University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, and this accreditation is granted to the entire institution. Regional accreditation is a measure of institutional effectiveness and is a process that occurs every ten years. The last regional accreditation for Roosevelt University occurred in 2015, and the cycle will begin again in 2025. The university’s programs have also received several professional accreditations.
Groups that have accredited programs include the National Association of Schools of Music, the Illinois State Board of Education, the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation, and the Illinois Veterans Commission. Other accreditations come from the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs, the American Psychological Association, and the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs.
Roosevelt University Application Requirements
Students who want to enroll as freshmen will complete the online application and will self-report standardized test scores, their high school GPA, and coursework. Students only need to submit official test scores and high school transcripts if the college requests them. Students who have completed their high school studies outside the country must submit to a Foreign Credential Evaluation. International students may also need to prove English language proficiency.
Graduate students will also use an online application to apply to Roosevelt University, and students will need to fulfill the application requirements of their chosen program. Admissions requirements usually include an application fee, official transcripts, a letter of recommendation, and an unofficial report of standardized test scores. Like undergraduate students, prospective graduate students must prove English language proficiency if their first language isn’t English.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Roosevelt University charges tuition based on the school that houses a student’s chosen program. Full-time tuition for the College of Arts and Sciences students is $30,876 and is $31,475 for the Heller College of Business. Programs in the College of Education are $30,876, and programs from the Chicago College of Performing Arts are $39,160. Each division also charges tuition on a per-credit basis when students are enrolled part-time.
For graduate students, similar tuition arrangements exist but are further divided by the specific program in which the students enroll. The College of Arts and Sciences charges $928 per credit for most programs but charges $1,231 per credit for the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing and $1,260 for the Master of Arts in Biomedical Science. Doctoral programs are charged at a per-credit rate that varies from $757 to $1,530.
Students need to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if they want to qualify for federal loans and grants. Applicants who have questions about the application process can contact the Office of Financial Aid Services for guidance during the application process. Students should include the Federal School Code for Roosevelt University when they submit their FAFSA. The code is 001749.
Students may receive federal, state, and institutional aid, as well as scholarships and student employment opportunities. The university sends award letters via the United States Postal Service and encourages students to speak with a financial aid services counselor to ensure a maximum financial aid award.
