Marist College in New York offers five degree and two certificate programs for online graduate students. The certificate in business analytics includes four classes and allows students to take two classes each semester. Those courses include Data Management I and Decision Support Systems. Students in the information systems advanced certificate program take six classes over three semesters. Their courses include Information Analysis, Systems Design, and Data Communications.

Most of the online graduate students attending Marist College focus on degree programs such as its Master of Business Administration (MBA). Students must choose a concentration in health care administration, financial management, or ethical leadership. Though they will take classes from one of those concentrations, they’ll also take the nine classes that create the business core. One class, Analytics Bootcamp, helps students understand how data and financial technology works and how they can use the software. Other courses required of MBA students include Marketing Management, Operations Management, Strategic Management, Global Environment of Business, and the 21st Century Manager.

A Master of Arts in Educational Psychology is also available online from the college. This program features one track for licensed teachers who work in elementary schools and a second track for those who want to work with children in secondary and high schools. Students will do a capstone that involves an electronic portfolio. This portfolio must meet the standards established by the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards.

Another online program allows students to major in integrated marketing communication, which focuses on the ways in which companies and individuals market to consumers. This is available as a part-time and a full-time program that includes classes such as Brand Management, Public Relations Management, Analytic Tools for Decision Making, and Social Media Strategies and Techniques. Marist College also offers online programs in information systems and public administration.

About Marist College

Marist College is a private college in Poughkeepsie, New York that offers a liberal arts curriculum. Founded in 1929, it opened as a training center several years earlier for the Marist Brothers, which are a society connected to the Catholic Church. It became the Marist Normal Training School in 1929 and offered classes for Brothers who wanted to serve as teachers. This would quickly change as students from across the state signed up for classes. Fordham University helped oversee the school during its early years and watched as it became a four-year school called Marian College and later Marist College. The college did not accept women into its programs until 1966 and only allowed them to take classes at night. It took two years before women earned the right to attend classes during the day.

The college was one of the first in New York to offer classes for high school students. This program still exists today and allows students to easily bridge the gap between high school and college. Marist College now ranks as the ninth-best college in the north on the list released by U.S. News and World Report and has an enrollment of more than 6,000 students.

Marist College Accreditation Details

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) awarded Marist College regional accreditation after an extensive look at the college’s history, degree requirements, opportunities for students, and other information. Not only can students apply for and receive the financial aid they need because of that accreditation, but it also gives them the option of using credits at the college that they received from other schools. Marist also has accreditation for its nursing, teaching, clinical laboratory, business, and social work degree programs.

Marist College Application Requirements

Marist College recommends that students sit down and work on their resumes before completing their applications. It also suggests that students spend some time working on their personal statements, which they’ll need to put on the application. To apply, students will select the term when they want to start and the name of the program they want to enter. Any student applying to a business program needs to submit a current resume and their official transcripts. The personal statement asks for a list of strengths the student has, an experience that will help them in graduate school, and how Marist College will help them with their career goals. Marist also requires an official GMAT or GRE score and recommends an undergrad GPA of at least 3.0.

Most of the online graduate programs offered by the college charge a $50 fee that is due when the student completes and submits the application. The information systems programs and others require three letters of recommendation too and ask that students submit letters that show both their professional and educational experiences. Though some programs do not require a test score, most give students the option of providing a score. A review committee will look at all factors and information to make a decision on a student’s application.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The cost of earning a certificate through Marist College includes fees and a tuition rate of $850 per credit hour. Certificate students do not qualify for financial aid and will need to pay for those programs out of their own pockets or through special financing programs. Students seeking a degree from the college pay $850 per credit hour up to $1,050 per credit hour. The Master of Public Administration program offers a discount for law enforcement professionals and those who work for emergency services departments. They can take online classes for just $425 per credit hour.

Both federal/state and institutional aid are available from the college for online students. Federal and state aid comes from the government and includes loans and grants. Students have the option of using alternative loans, but they can borrow more than $20,000 through the unsubsidized loan program offered by the federal government. Marist gives a grant to alumni that allows them to take one graduate class for free too. It also has special partners and offers discounts to any students who work for those partner organizations. The Graduate Scholars program offers a scholarship of $2,000 to $5,750 to any student with an undergraduate GPA of 3.5 or higher. Students can get more than one scholarship from the college. Online students applying to the graduate programs offered by Marist College should apply for both scholarships and government financial aid.
