McDaniel College is ranked as 157th for the best online graduate education programs by U.S. News & World Report. The school offers four online master’s programs designed to help students develop their skills in specific areas. Students may also choose from three graduate certificates and one writing and liberal arts program certificate.
The Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction degree is designed for educators in colleges, schools, and in staff-development roles within social service and business organizations. The curriculum places the student at the center of the education system as it allows students to actively apply research and theory about learning and teaching to their current everyday work within the school system. Coursework addresses curriculum analysis and planning as well as differentiation and technology, and it is designed with the goal of transforming students into reflective practitioners. The online-only course structure is built with the student’s individual needs in mind. The 34.5-credit program empowers teachers to increase their skills and knowledge in evaluating, implementing, and developing a curriculum and working with the educational community to do so. Courses also address global initiatives and how they relate to school systems. Students learn how to improve the learning process by applying current technology, research, and theories at all levels. If students wish, they may choose to complete a capstone experience such as an action research experience, a synthesis experience, or a portfolio experience rather than a master’s thesis.
The Master of Science in Gerontology gives students the expertise and knowledge they need to improve the quality of life for older adults. Online-only courses combine professional and scholarly perspectives, and students develop a deeper understanding of the issues that arise in an aging society as well as the aging process itself. McDaniel College’s courses are also eligible for continuing education credits for certified senior advisors as well as counselors, psychologists, and social workers in Maryland. In order to earn the degree, students must successfully complete 30- to 36-semester hours of coursework, including courses in the psychology of aging, the biology of aging, and aging in a diverse society. They participate in many application-oriented and hands-on activities and receive state-of-the-art instruction in order to maximize their understanding of the spiritual-social-psycho-bio aspects of aging. Students who already have a master’s degree may also choose to pursue an online post-baccalaureate graduate certificate in gerontology.
The Master of Science in School Librarianship is nationally recognized by the American Association of School Librarians. The 37-credit-hour graduate degree prepares teachers to become outstanding library administrators, information specialists, and instructional leaders. The degree also meets the Maryland State Department of Education’s PK-12 certification requirements for those seeking to become a Library Media Specialist. In addition to providing students with a significant amount of experience in practicum, the Master of Science in School Librarianship degree also offers courses in selecting quality materials for diverse learners, information literacy skills, technology, literature for young adults and children, and operating a school library. The degree is ranked as the 66th best online program in the U.S. by U.S. News & World Report. Eight-week-long courses, four modules, and one assignment for each model make up the program structure. Students pursuing this online degree from McDaniel College are required to take one course at a time and may take up to five courses per year.

Located just 30 miles northwest of Baltimore, Maryland in Westminster, McDaniel College is a four-year, private liberal arts college. McDaniel also operates McDaniel College Budapest, a satellite campus in Budapest, Hungary. McDaniel College was initially known as Western Maryland College at the time of its establishment in 1867. McDaniel College Application Requirements

Tuition and Financial Aid
Online graduate students can expect to pay $490 per credit hour. McDaniel College offers several types of financial aid for graduate students, and the first step to receiving an award is to complete the FAFSA. Graduate students may be entitled to scholarships, grants, and loans as well as graduate assistantships, and the Federal Work-Study program.
