About University of Kentucky
The University of Kentucky was chartered as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Kentucky in 1865, founded by John Bryan Bowman. It was established under the Morrill Land-Grant Act of 1862 which encouraged states to create an institute of higher learning that focused on agriculture and engineering. Initially, the school partnered with Kentucky University, a private, sectarian institution.
Theological and denominational controversies along with financial problems led to the separation of the two schools in 1878. At that time, the school became known as A&M College with a campus located on the site of a municipal park and fairgrounds that were donated by the City of Lexington. In 1916, the school became the University of Kentucky.

University of Kentucky Application Requirements
In order to apply for the Master of Applied Science in Applied Statistics, applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university. They must have completed two semesters of calculus and one semester of general statistics. Applicants must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended as well as official GRE or GMAT scores. Three letters of recommendation must also be provided.
Applicants to the Master of Arts in Arts Administration must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university and are expected to have a demonstrable commitment to the arts in at least one art form. This may be through an undergraduate degree in an art-related field, professional experience in the arts or an extracurricular artistic activity. Applicants must provide a current resume and personal statement, a writing sample as well as two letters of recommendation. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended must be provided but there are no GRE or GMAT requirements.
Applicants to the Master of Science in Digital Mapping must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university. They must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. GRE or GMAT scores are not required.
The University of Kentucky Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition for the Master of Applied Science in Applied Statistics is $721 per credit hour. Tuition for the Master of Arts in Art Management is $685 per credit hour. Tuition for the Master of Science in Digital Mapping is $721 per credit hour.
Financial aid is available and all students are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as some assistance is need-based while others are merit-based. Students may be offered loans to cover the cost of graduate tuition although they may apply for scholarships and grants on their own.
