After serving as a junior college for a second time and then a state college, it became the University of Louisiana – Monroe.

Now called ULM to distinguish it from other campuses in the University of Louisiana System, the university has an enrollment of more than 8,000 students. The number of graduate students at the university increased to more than 1,300 after it introduced new online programs. University of Louisiana – Monroe Application Requirements

Students applying to a ULM online graduate program must meet the same requirements that traditional graduate students do. Most programs ask that students have a bachelor’s degree and that they attended a university or college with regional accreditation. Those programs also require that students have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. If a student has a lower GPA, he or she can submit a GRE score. They need to score a minimum of 238 on the GRE and have a GPA no lower than 2.5. In some cases, ULM will grant conditional acceptance to a student. That individual will need to take prerequisite courses and introductory classes and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher in those classes to get full acceptance.

Online students must also visit the ULM Admissions page and look for the online application. Though it takes less than an hour to complete the application, students will need to create an account with the application portal. This allows them to go online and view the response from the university. ULM does not send out paper decision letters because it does everything online. They will also pay an application fee online and then submit their college and/or university transcripts. The MBA program and others also require letters of recommendation and personal statements from prospective students.

Tuition and Financial Aid

ULM offers affordable rates for online students. It charges a flat rate that includes fees and tuition to help students see exactly how much they will pay each semester. Graduate students pay $500 per credit hour. Most graduate classes are worth three credit hours, but students will need to take an orientation class that is worth one credit. They may take other courses that are worth four to five credits. The orientation class shows students how the website works and what they need to do to complete their assignments.

Both online and traditional graduate students at ULM qualify for financial aid. The FAFSA is available online at the beginning of October. Graduate students are independent students and can submit this form with their tax records from the previous year. This shows how much they make and how much they can afford to spend on grad school, which helps the university see the total amount of help they need. The federal government offers unsubsidized loans and allows students to borrow more than $20,000 a year. Students can also apply for loans from lenders that specialize in education loans. The University of Louisiana – Monroe will notify students about their financial aid packages online through their registered accounts.
