The University of Missouri is a large campus with a population of over 30,000 students. The home campus in Columbia, Missouri is respected for its journalism, engineering, and research programs. University of Missouri Accreditation Details
The University of Missouri is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Specific programs within the school may have additional accreditations that apply only to those areas. Other governing bodies that have awarded accreditation to programs within the university include the American Chemical Society, the National Association of Schools of Music, the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy, the American Bar Association, the American Veterinary Medical Association, and many others.
University of Missouri Application Requirements
Students seeking online master’s degrees must go through the university’s standard graduate admissions process. There are minimum requirements for all graduate programs at the university, though some may have additional needs. At a minimum, all students must show proof of graduation from a four-year college or university that is accredited by one of the following agencies:
- North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Higher Learning Commission
- Middle States Commission on Higher Education
- New England Association of Schools and Colleges Commission on Institutions of Higher Education
- Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities
- Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges
- Western Association of Schools and Colleges Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities
Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA in their last 60 hours of undergraduate study. This requirement is not necessary if the applicant has an existing master’s degree.
The cost of applying to the University of Missouri online graduate program is $65. This fee is waived for applicants’ in-service programs or the armed services.
Students do not have to be Missouri residents to earn degrees online through the University of Missouri. However, some states have guidelines that do not allow students to earn degrees in certain areas. Students from Alabama, Louisiana, Maryland, and New York cannot take nursing classes online through the university due to restrictions in those states. Students who live in Massachusetts, North Dakota, Oregon, and Washington cannot earn degrees in areas that require in-state clinical experience.
Tuition and Financial Aid
The tuition for online master’s degree courses is the same as the tuition for traditional in-seat classes. Missouri residents are charged $386 per credit hour. Non-residents must pay the out-of-state fee along with tuition, which brings their cost up to $1056.80 per credit hour. Any courses that are self-paced are charged an additional $25. The Trulaske Executive MBA Program has a flat rate of $73,000 per year.
Some online classes incur additional required course fees. These fees greatly vary from as little as $40 per credit to as much as $260 per credit. Other fees might include exam fees, books and supplies, and administration costs.
Students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA when they apply to the University of Missouri. The FAFSA is used by the state government, federal government, and some private entities to determine the eligibility and amount of need-based grants and scholarships. The FAFSA is also used by many private lenders who specialize in student loans.
The University of Missouri offers automatic scholarships to first-year students based on high school grades, class rankings, and ACT scores. These automatic scholarships are not available to students who choose to study online. Master’s degree-seeking online students should contact their chosen departments to learn of any scholarships that are eligible for distance-based education. In addition, students can compete for outside scholarships.
Online classes may be paid with checks, money orders, credit cards, or direct withdrawal from a 529 college savings plan. Students who cannot pay the entire amount of tuition at once can choose to use a monthly payment plan.
