Online Degrees Available at the University of Michigan

Undergraduate students can learn online at the Dearborn campus of the University of Michigan. The classes offered change frequently, so students should ensure they have their schedules all worked out earlier rather than later.

About the University of Michigan
Springing to life in 1817 upon nearly 2,000 acres of land ceded by the Council of the Three Fires for the express purpose of building a university, the University of Michigan became one of the first public institutions in the United States. Two decades later, the university moved from its Detroit location to its present location in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The University of Michigan also blazed trails in diversity, admitting women in 1870, which was a full five decades before women could even vote. Only 15 years after the conclusion of the Civil War, black students were admitted and also played on the university’s athletic teams. Women actually taught at the university before the turn of the 20th century. At a time when “separate but equal” was ruled upon as the law of the land in Plessy v. Ferguson, the University of Michigan was leading the way in diversity.
In keeping with that commitment to diversity, the university admits qualified students from more than 100 countries, all 50 states, and all four inhabited United States territories. It is a gigantic institution. Nearly 6,000 faculty teach more than 50,000 students. Those instructors teach more than 5,500 courses in more than 200-degree programs that encompass more than 1,000 major and minor degree foci.
University of Michigan Accreditation Details
Such a huge institution that offers so many courses and fields of study collects a vast array of accreditations. As with many of the top colleges and universities in the United States, the university’s primary accreditation is with The Higher Learning Commission. This commission re-evaluates each university every 10 years. The University of Michigan’s next evaluation occurs in 2020. The other accreditations earned by the university include:

These accreditations do not include the numerous approvals of programs by other entities. The University of Michigan campus at Dearborn offers online courses, and the online branch of the university is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
University of Michigan Application Requirements
All undergraduate students must complete three essays on personal topics. Additional essays are required as well, depending on the method by which students choose to apply.
Students may complete the Common Application or the Coalition Application for admittance to the University of Michigan. In addition to the essays, students must also provide a copy of all transcripts, including college if college courses were part of the student’s high-school curriculum, scores for either or both the SAT and ACT, recommendations from an academic teacher and the student’s high-school guidance counselor, and a teacher evaluation. Any student who is not a native English speaker must be able to provide proof of English proficiency and has the option of taking any one of a number of tests for that purpose. Students should not send the university any documents that are not requested. Doing so will result in delays in application processing. Any standardized testing scores, such as the SAT or ACT, must be sent from the testing agency directly to the university. Some of the university study programs require additional materials, such as auditions for the school of music or portfolios for visual arts studies.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Michigan residents pay $14,826 annually for tuition if they are freshmen or sophomores. Upperclassmen pay $16,696 annually. Out-of-state students pay $47,476 in their first and second years and $50,808 in their third and fourth years. Room and board, regardless of residency, cost $11,198 for a standard double room. Books and supplies cost $1,048. Students also have the option to live off-campus and save $11,198.
Students seeking financial aid to help pay for their studies must begin with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA. Based on the student’s economic situation. tax forms for both the student and the student’s parents may be required. Students also have the option to apply for grants from the federal government, such as PELL, from private organizations, or both. Students who show superb academic achievement may also qualify for scholarships. Some scholarships are slated for students of specific ethnic or socioeconomic groups or even for students of certain high schools. All applicants should explore any and all available scholarships.
The university also provides students with work-study opportunities, and students have the option to work off-campus, too, of course. By combining all of these available avenues, almost all students who gain admittance can afford to attend.
